Hi everyone. I'm new to forums in general, There are tons of forums on Computers, cars, bikes food and lots more for Singaporeans, but none on Medical/psychiatric help. I don't know if this would be the best place, please do redirect me if you know of a better one.
My friend needs to see a psychiatrist to deal with the issues he is facing with his family. I strongly urge him to do so cos its really affecting his work and life in general. But where does one find a psychiatrist? Any idea how much it costs?
Please do help by sharing infromation.
My heartfelt thanks.
God bless.

Ask your friend to save his money and don't waste money on those consultation fees.
And ask him to focus on his opinions of himself than other's opinions of him.
He is always welcome to share his problems with us, if he doesn't mind talking about it. ![]()

Not very easy leh.. otherwise why even have psychiatrists and the field of psychology in the first place? Some people just can't handle major psychological pressures la.
To TS.. try IMH.. seriously. It's govt subsidised. Private psychiatrists are very expensive.
go polyclinic get a referral letter ![]()
so he can get subsidized rate for cheaper charges ![]()
What are the kind of problems he face?

Psychiatrists are meant to help people who knows and is aware that they have some mental problem with themselves.
The kind of issues that TS's friend faced is a social/family issue, see psychiatrist also no use and not going to help him...UNLESS his entire family go and visit the psychiatrists or he just need to consult a family/social counselor.
TS's friend might as well go see a family/social counselor.
Psychiatrist can diagnose and tell you how insane and mad you are, but counselor can give you better advice to move on with your life and take things easier. ![]()
Hmm....psychiatrists usually can be found in hospitals.
I think most hospitals have psychiatrist ward.
You just need to call one, and make an appointment.
Issues with family.....hmm.....the psychiatrist may refer a social worker to help your friend as well, if it is deemed so.

It depends on the qualification of the psychiatrist and in what field he/she is trained in. In fact more psychiatrists in their studies are more than capable to fulfiling the role of a counselor and are often more effective in analysing the issue due to extensive training.
A misnomer is that psychiatrists is meant to help people who are aware that they have problem, which unfortunately in many cases do not exist.
That being said, I think your friend should still go through the normal channels via polyclinic or public hospitals since private consultations are anything but cheap as the sessions are usually not short and the whole program might take weeks, months or even years (depending on the severity). Having some subsidy would be good.
IMH might be the ideal place to seek help if your friend is bound by monetary constraints.
if he is well to do and money is no problem, $160 per 50 min session by private counselors might be better. bare in mind that this is a long term thing, not just one short visit to the doctor to cure a fever.
Can you elaborate on the Issues hes suffering? all psychiatrists (most useless occupation ever) do is just to give Meds - tranqulizers to provide your relief for your problems but no true long term solutions. Don't waste your money
go to the IMH website. get the number to the clinic you want to go.
you have to wait 2 weeks minimum for an appointment.
its $75 for 1st consultation.
i think those private psycharists is there to suck money one.
their fees are damn high.
if they really want to help pple,i think they should charge lower or work for gov hospitals and not open their clinics in orchard/town area and charge expensive rates.
where has the values of doctors gone to?
