Maybe you should explain why you want to extend svc 64, and what the benefits are... (e.g. to provide connectivity between Mei Chin and Queenstown MRT, between Mei Chin and Kent Ridge MRT, etc)
Alternative suggestions:
- Extend svc 63 from Rumah Tinggi to Kent Ridge (via Jln Bukit Merah) to improve connectivity in Rumah Tinggi & Redhill
- Merge svc 63 or 64 with svc 191, to provide better connectivity to Mediapolis and Portsdown
Originally posted by TPS Timothy Mok:502's route is something that none of the western residents or commuters will ever go to the north east. That is the reason why they cut it. First, most of the route may duplicate 501. Second, to provide connectivity to MBS and Suntec.
501 is upgraded to Transcity Bus Services bus service 550 and City Direct service 654.
81: cut south of Serangoon, about 5 SDs and 6 DDs lost
82: cut south of Serangoon, all the double deckers transferred to 107.
85: withdrawn. About 5 SDs and 20 DDs gone.
97: cut north of City Hall (and diverted to Marina Centre via Esplanade Dr and former 79 routing), about 12 DDs gone.
103: cut south of Serangoon, about 8 SDs lost
106: cut east of Dhoby Ghaut (and diverted to Marina Centre/MBS/Suntec), about 3 SDs and 8 bendies lost
111: cut east of Dhoby Ghaut (and diverted to Marina Centre only), about 9 DDs gone
147: after NEL rationalisation, the rest of single deckers all convert to double deckers.
501: withdrawn. about 1 SD and 10 DDs gone
502: cut east of Dhoby Ghaut (and diverted to Marina Centre/MBS/Suntec), about 4 DDs and 5 SDs gone
511/512: withdrawn. about 5 SDs and 7 DDs gone
Net loss:
SDs - 5 + 5 + 8 + 3 + 5 + 1 + 5 = 32
DDs - 6 + 20 + 12 + 9 + 10 + 5 + 7 = 69
LOL... I remember that my blood was boiling with anger when I saw the massive rationalisation of bus services parallel to the NEL back in 2003. At that time, I was a poor student who only bought bus concession, so I avoided the MRT and took buses only. I depended heavily on svc 23 to travel from Bedok North Rd to Bendemeer Rd so that I can transfer to other buses to downtown and western SG. After the NEL rationalisation, I lost 7 options along Bendemeer Rd / Jalan Besar. The sense of injustice was overwhelming. It seemed that the government had totally forgotten about commuters with bus-only concession pass. (I heard that LTA wanted to cut svc 133 & 147 too, but luckily 133 & 147 were spared due to intervention by grassroot leaders.)
Thankfully there are no rationalisations (so far) after CCL & DTL started operations. But then, the good times won't last, as KBW said "Bus services may be re-routed, merged or rationalised to optimise resources." Let's wait and see which routes will "kena the axe".

I have a sense of feeling that some CCL-duplicating routes will also be affected soon... After all, KBW didn't make that statement specific to DTL.
Any thoughts on how 51's big loop around Queensway and Queenstown MRT can be modified?

They should look at all route overall and modify routes that do not have enough loading and get them to connect new areas. Important to have more point-to-point connections and reduce long route duplications.

Take Marine Parade as an example. There is an exodus of services running in parallel between Marine Parade and Bedok.
16, 31, 155, 196, 197. Are so many needed? No. 197 already is too long, should have been truncated to say Eunos or go to Bedok via Still road, Kembangan, Chai Chee to Bedok, this way at least you connect Kembangan and Chai Chee to Katong and Parkway Parade (no connection today).
Likewise UEC has too many duplicative sectors.
197 is the result of merger with the old 41.
Anyway, some of the NEL cuts were harsh. PGL is the only suburb with no bus service to CBD as a result. I hope 62 can be extended to Marina South ITH when it opens.

even if 62 is extended to CBD, will anyone take 62 to CBD???

Yes if NEL breaks down. And yes for Lor Ah Soo residents.
Just like how 66 & 67 are parallel to DTL to help aid the crowd if any breakdown occurs

NEL is like the least breakdown line though.
That is bcos its fully underground and has the least number of stations across all MRT lines, but u never know whats gonna happen

DTL have one of the longest undergorund lines in SG
CCL also have quite alot of stations

HBF and OTP this stretch has at times brought the entire NEL down. trains can only turned back at LTI thereby missing stations near the city area.

Compared to east west north south,NEL how old?16?15?Many ex SMRT Technicians all jump ship to NEL/DTL.

62 can extend to Marina Centre. But again weekday morning already stuck in the famous Punggol Field jams..

I like how u say as it breaks down like now hahaha

Actually, DTL is the only line that hasn't broken down in the past 2 days.
Now that Tuas Link MRT has opened (not considering TWE is currently isolated from main EWL), should 182/182M be merged to serve Tuas Checkpoint in both directions all day?

DTL suffered from delays in the early morning, on the same days as the SMRT lines.
It just wasnt reported.
after all the old mrtr line problem i think LTA will not dare to change much on the bus services
I feel that Night Buses should be standardised under BCM, I don't see really any point in having separate Nite Owl and NightRider Services anymore. Also there should be more Bus Parallel Services to support the MRT system as well as LRT.

These 7 are 81, 82, 85, 97, 103, 106 and 111?

Yes. But 103 was merged with 378 & 379 and became Serangoon - Seletar Airport (Loop), later extended to Yishun.
