1st Commando Battalion wins SAF’s best unit award for the fifth time
SINGAPORE: For the fifth year in a row the 1st Commando Battalion has clinched the Best Combat Unit award in the SAF Day Best Unit Competition held on Sunday.
And also showing their might in the air five years in a row was the RSAF 149 Squadron which grabbed the Best Fighter Squadron.
But it was a debut win for the Navy’s RSS Formidable, which won the Best Ship award.
The Formidable—class frigates are built for multi—dimensional warfare in the air, surface, and sub—surface domains and play a key role in the operation of the 3rd Generation SAF.
As for the seasoned winners, the RSAF 149 Squadron has participated actively in major multilateral exercises such as Exercise Bersama Shield and Bersama Lima under the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA).
They also took part in Exercise Cope Tiger with the US and Thailand air forces.
As for the 1st Commando Battalion, it’s an unprecedented 22 times that it has clinched the Best Combat Unit award. — CNA/vm

actually this best unit competition also very hard to say wayang or what.. 1cdo trained their men since enlistment till atec. there's a culture that everyone is instilled upon and had to perform..
the mentality has been casted on the men of 1cdo. so there is always a "want to win" attitude. and due to the soldiers sticking together since day 1, until they split up go on specs, or officer courses, they will still end up as a cohort during atec and this is one important reason for their bonding and chemistry.
being part of it once, I have to say even if it was a show, it has to be a good show in the first place to convince the atec umpire. even if u're implying that no matter good or bad the cdos performed they will be awarded best unit, I can tell you, we really did put in our best in atec and we have to put in our best in atec.
I know everyone put in their best, all units, wherever you're from. but I just want to emphasize that even if it was pre arranged, the cdos never slacked nor got complacent in their trainings.
