    • Pass out from army side 8sir..?? ( During my time  Navy runs thier own Sea soldier course, hence all SS are from NAVY, btw i ORD-ed 1-2 years ago.)

where are you posted to?? CNB or TNB ?? wads ur PES status ..?? if u are combat fit (able to bear arms), you would be a full fledged SS (sea soldier), u would be posted either to a land side plt or sea ward defence plt, land side would be your standard RP gurad house duites, sea ward would be something you wont get in army (piloting a inflatable boat and doing sea ward watch tower duites)...

The duty routine would scare you, i belive SS is one of the NSF vocations in SAF where the stay in-camp period is the longest.... It works on a 7 day duty cycle system, would only 2 platoons to rotate between. (Eg: say u belong to plt 1, you would mount duty every thursdays to take over plt 2, and stay in-camp for duty form this thursday to next thursday, 7 days straight, and next thurday you would dis mount and be replaced by plt 2, you would then book out and enjoy your weekends, then next mon to wed, report to camp 8-5 for training, so before you think you would enjoy a 7 days off for 7 days of stay-in, there isnt.!! )

Duty shifts you get during your 7 day duty days is quite alright, on average about 6-8 hours worth of duty per man every 24hrs cycle.(well dependent on manpower, deployment and planning....)

since my time, the 7day duty cycle was constanly tipped by our superiors that it would be shorten to a 1 ,2 or 3 days cycle, but till i ORDed it has not been changed, what i heard from my mates that are still serving, till now, the 7days system is still in place.....

    • I had been posted to CDS as riflemen for reservist and it seemed like I should continue to defer my ICT due to shoulder injury. Hehehe.

Basically, you just told me that this unit sucked. But unlike other infantry units, CDS was dealing with real terrorists’ threat. And nothing could go wrong when the US navy ship came. But a unit was being sacked vs men had been abused was two different stories.

Some1’s head is going to roll some days with mindef directives that are not being followed. It seems like my boss is going to have an email warfare soon. See who get shot this time round. Fire in the hole!

The sayiing is still true after so many years, the green guys really dont know how to do things.

    • yea agree with Pyr0. Many of us get offended when u call us Navy RPs..cos we do shoulder more reponsibility then ur typical RPs in army. In fact over at Tuas, SS do not guard the camp, its the Army Troopers from 8SIR that does the work. We concentrate more on our sea side Ops. And yes, wad PyrO listed above is roughly wad ur going to go through during course. IPPT failure? Fret not, most ppl jump from fail to silver after course. so you noe hw shiong the PT is le la. hehehe. Good thing abt SS is u werent be chiong sua-ing anymore. =)

Sounds like 8 SIR isnt your conventional infantry unit...How different is it from other SIRs? RP duties? So 6SIR stopped their POI duties and returned to conventional infantry unit status?

I came from a time when there were only 6 infantry units.

    • yes sea soldiers used to go through the 2-week RP course at 2PDF. but full-fledged SSes are not RPs and should not be regarded as RPs. and yes, if you're posted to CDS, it's definitely more shiong than TDS. good luck TS. and be prepared for a culture shock when you join the navy.

During the course, swimmers will train for a test, non-swimmers will be taught to swim. Only towards the end of the course, then those who have passed the test will be allowed for leisure swims or better still stay in bunk, while the rest continue to go for their lesson.

After passing out from course, swim training is done sporadically... and even if you don't know how to swim by that time also doesn't matter already. There is no RT for non-swimmers.
