    • "As you get older, the things you love fall away. Maybe there's just 2 left, for me, it's one."

The line above comes from the movie "The Hurt Locker" which I watched last night. The protaganist says it to his infant son while playing with him. I think he was actually talking to himself.

It struck me pretty hard as being true. Now that I've hit my thirties, I begin to find that things that I used to love, simply hold no more attraction for me. The older we get, the less things we seem to be able to love.

      Anybody else feel that way?

    • Life gets less complicated when we get older

So what you lose in breadth, you gain in depth

In love, less to love, but for what we love, we love deeper.

    • in early days, its boy/girl love, the selfish boundary type

in later days, its appreciative love, its without boundaries

    • i figure what he meant was that as you grow older, sometimes you grow wiser..

and you realise that the things you "loved" are pointless and trivial.. you learn that some things which you took for granted, are the things which make life worthwhile...

family, friends, loved ones... you realise are important in life..

things which we chased, stuff like prestige, status, things, money, whatever seem trivial and pointless...

and we learn this important lesson: Love people, use things, never the other way around..

and slowly, things fall away until there is only the most important people in your life and maybe yourself...

like he said: two.. and maybe one...

    • the bear > do you mean the protagonist in the movie? He obviously loved defusing bombs more than his son.

I think what he meant was, as you grow older, you realize that you have slowly become a product of your environment.

I don’t want to be a Ribena berry.

    • Finally I am qualify to comment on this topic haha...

I can relate how u feel cos I too feel eveything I used to do seems to be unappealing to me again...but I am not sure is it because of the age thing or is it simply because I am lazy... I suspect its the latter that cause the lost of interest icon_lol.gif

I guess I have to work out something to create the passion inside me to start burning again icon_lol.gif

      i didn't watch the movie..

thing is, as i grew older, i figured a lot of things people spend so much time and energy on, isn't worth it in the end...

sacrificing time, and relationship with loved ones, for those things, for things like our work, they kinda leave me cold..

      hey.. but that's me...

each got to find their own way... i think we should never stop looking wink.png

    • I think maybe we are thinking too deep?

In the past, I loved hard liquor.

These days, I gravitate more towards ‘kinder and softer’ drinks like Bacardi and white wine.

    • Your capacity to love hasn't decreased, but your tastes have changed. You don't just become a product of your environment if you actively shape it as well, so it works as a cycle. It applies to the people you meet as well.

'You peer inside yourself, you take the things you like and try to love the things you took, then take the love you made and stick it into some-...'

    • I only have strong desires for many material things.

I admit I love money more than anything else right now!

Will people start to lose love for money? Or it only needs a spark to get the dying flame to rekindle, with those who claim they are not in need to start fighting for it again?

      hmmmm

    • I think in general the only people who say they don't love money are people who already have lots of it. there are exceptions of course.  personally, I love money. icon_lol.gif

    • my interests, hobbies etc have been as varied as can be - different things in different phases of my life but i wouldn't go so far to say that things i used to love are pointless now.

    • People who don’t love money, are those who realize that it doesn’t necessarily make you happy

    • But without money, you will definitely be unhappy. Bills need to be paid. Stomachs need to be filled.  icon_lol.gif

People changes their preference as one grew older. One tend to able to let go of what they felt was of almost importance in the past and pursued something that they felt has become more importance.

What is important to U now? Ur family or the friends that accompany through the endless nights in pubs. I'm sure now you begin thinking about the next stage of Life where who has become your No. 1 priority.

I can't gif a definite answer to ur question But i do know when past 30, one will look back and start to count the things not yet done before 30 and start thinking about their life

    • I think some of you chaps are just experiencing a quarter life crisis, that's all .....

life is beautiful .... wake up every day in the morning ..... open your eyes, stretch a bit, scratch your nuts, smell the coffee, sniff your wifey, and be happy ! ..... every day is a brand new day ....

why get so philosophical and maudlin about the things in your life ? Life still goes on, inexorably, however you make of it  ..... happiness is very often, a decision ...... go chew on it ....
