    • TD, Do you know how much is your Taxi Insurance Excess ??

Excess, also called deductible, is to the first amount of the claim which the insured has bear.
If the insured has an excess of $500 and the total repair costs
$3,000, then the insured has to pay $500 while the insurer pays the remaining $2,500.

My 前辈 which before that was driving TW2.0 and kena accident with another car.Intially both party agreed not to make any report。

Then my 前辈 happly go his wonderland to havoc, on his way to his wonderland he received a call from the party that the other party had decided to make Police report etc.

BUT my 前辈 carry on his happy hours in his wonderland without rushing back to SG to make police report. Few days later then he realise that and he decided to fark care it.

End with Transcab sent him a letter to demand for $5000 payment and he return his RED Fire Engine to TC and create a big stroy about Transcab / Jasmine Tan greedy. Finally Transcab serve him a lawyer letter 。。。。。

Few months later my buddy Sam kena chain accident and end with a $2140 case, This 前辈 start Incited Sam go CASE to complain Transcab 。。。。。。。。
I told my Sam Transcab Insurance company is 1st Capital and the Excess is $5000。。。。
Finally my buddy realised that what is happen and STOP do anything.

To my understanding Transcab accident case,
      Only have 0% fault, 50%-50% fault($1,070) and 100% fault($2,140).

Also from my CDG fan, CDG accident case
have O% fault, Minor fault 25%, 50%-50% fault,
Major fault 75% and 100% fault. (Please correct me if I am wrong).

    • Any accident, regardless whether private settlement or not, better report within 24 hrs.  You never know if the other party might decide to back out of the agreement or not.

Not that I know of.  Some insurance companies do waive off the excess under certain conditions, e.g. if the driver has 50% NCD. But, you cannot take up insurance against this excess as it is a form of co-insurance to ensure that drivers will drive carefully if they know that they have to pay something in the event of an accident.

For taxis, do note that it is 3rd party insurance (some include fire & theft). That means the excess of $5K applies only to 3rd party claims, not your own damage. So, in 100% at fault cases, if 3rd party damage costs $6K to repair, you pay $5K and Insurance co. pays $1K. But, your own damage, you pay in full even if it costs $10K.

I am not an insurance expert, so I stand corrected. Anyone care to share?

    • Sure, anything can be insured, just a matter of money mah, can go talk with NTUC income, should not be a problem,

in fact, for private car, there are many car insurance products on the market, from normal kind of insurance to premium that cover even the excess, and you have to pay hell of alot to cover it, like NTUC income alone, the range for a 1.6cc new car start from 800 to 1800++, and subject to your driving record and car model.

One of the cheapest around it tokyo Marine insurance, but you are an experience old man, in this world, where got cheap, big and young stuff??

PS, do not buy from those pirate insurance company hor

Yes, but first timer is less than that, about 900 to 1,800 only, cdg can be said to be the best in term of accident problem, they can settle very fast, but they only allow the most, touch wood,  2 accidents per year, unless proven NOT YOUR FAULT.

Own or share faults for 2 times per year, you can start clearing yr belonging inside yr cab liao.

    • 1 accident buay tio pok lah, accident also depend on what accident mah, if some kuku go knock you, is also accident, take photo,  record and report, do not argue too much,

Accident must be taken like spilled milk, once spilled on the floor, kpkb also no use, just be calm and steadily do the recording, take photo, and report accordingly, even own fault also hv to do it this way. More serious one will be injury, that one will be more complicated.

For cdg, they are more cool and steady in handling accident, and even if you have 2 accidents per year due to own or partial fault, you still can talk to them and given one last chance, if not, you can look for me at the 3rd floor

    •  Normally for pte car, some companies do allow car owners to increase their excess in order to lower their insurance premiums.

A $500 excess policy with $3k premium can be lowered to $2000 excess with only $1.2k premium. Some owners do this as they think they are safe driver.

$5k excess.. premium should be quite cheap and alot Taxi companies buy insurance in batches...

No lah, for comfort 2000 is for 2nd and 3rd time own fault accident, but after talk here and there, can reduce by 200 to 400 or even 1000, as said, cdg are more approachable and listen to driver when it come to insurance, whereas other companies will not have that luxury, why so?

Just take a look at cdg fleets of taxis in singapore, it a goldmine for any insurance companies. And cdg had a large capacity of own workshop, from Pandan all the way to loyang, Parts changing between taxis are easy and common, Oh, you door damaged, change the door with the other one lor, then change here and there, so many everyday, so at time, you see a hirer having 2 keys to 3 keys, one for driver door, one for boots, and one for the other door...lols
