    • Grab to add two R&D centers and 800 developers

Ride-hailing firm Grab, the main rival of Uber Technologies Inc [UBER.UL] in Southeast Asia, on Wednesday announced two new research and development (R&D) centers and said it planned to add 800 developers over the coming two years.

R&D centers in Bengaluru and Ho Chi Minh City will add to centers in Seattle, Beijing, Jakarta and at home in Singapore, as the company seeks to capitalize on growth prospects in South and Southeast Asia.

The new developers will be sought across all centers.

"Southeast Asia is developing at a breakneck pace," Grab co-founder Tan Hooi Ling said in a statement.

Grab's R&D focuses on machine learning, predictive data analytics, mobile-first technology and user experience, the firm said in the statement.

The Bengaluru center will focus on developing payment technologies for digital payment platform GrabPay. The Ho Chi Minh City center will aim to improve user experience.

The ride-hailing firm also said its offices will move to an almost 100,000 square foot space in Singapore's Central Business District, from a 4,500 square foot space at present.

Last year, Grab started testing driverless cars with passengers able to request "robo-cars" in selected areas of Singapore.

Now, their strategy is to gather datas and at the same time, get loyal fans and supporters so that when driverless come around, they already got many pples datas and supporters, with or without a driver is then, no more an issue.

    • when the first airline plane landed at old kallang airport, nobody dare to take, even the british offer it free trial, also no body…

when the first car arrive in Singapore…many dun dare to drive or even sit as it went so fast that they scare they lost their life if hit something, still prefer horsecart and trishaws

when the first microwave oven arrived in Singpaore, people dun dare to buy, said it is radioactive, and the food can kill you.

when man first go up to space, they are so scare, they used monkey, now, going to space is most human dreams

when I was young, watched ultraman and giant robot, astro boy…my father said, no such thing as using a watch or a piece of block can see and contact each other..and now, everyone is holding a smartphone looking at each other, some with smart watch.

      etc etc

    • You know, you can laugh at driverless technology, but our sg govt are pouring billions into developing them, and where they get these billions…from you and me, so we are actually laughing at ourselves…

...water price is set to go up 30%, prior to it going up, many thing including ice kacang to mee soup to kopi had gone up…

In a country without natural resources to sell, the only income, in times of need is to take from it own people, as you hear in the parliament debate, taxes will rise.

We wish to clarify that existing TDVL holders do not need to apply separately for a PDVL. TDVL holders will be able to drive a private hire car, and they will be informed of the conduct rules and regulations on driving a private hire car in due course.
