i have heard that it is a big big offense to surf or download porn or any sex related material in sg....if caught will be punished big time
..then how come this site is running? and how come

Well, I remember not too long ago (about 1 to 2 years back), I watched "Zao An Ni Hao". They invited a lawyer and talking about this topic.
According to that lawyer, downloading/possession of porn is illegal, however streaming of it is not. In short, you cannot have the actual file stored.
Don't quote/hold me me for this, I just merely typed out what I heard.
Well, like progene said, as long as you don't get caught, you will be fine. It's not like they are gonna track everyone down for it.
Normally, I think, people who got caught for possession of pornographic material is because of some other crimes that they did that resulted in a search in their house, thus getting caught for it too.
Why we can watch but cannot store them? Don't ask me why. God knows what those poodles are thinking.
For those who are curious: (It is illegal even if you own the originals)
Possession of obscene films
30. —(1) Any person who has in his possession any obscene film shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $500 for each such film he had in his possession (but not to exceed in the aggregate $20,000) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.(2) Any person who has in his possession any obscene film knowing or having reasonable cause to believe the film to be obscene shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction —
(a) to a fine of $1,000 for each such film in his possession (but not to exceed in the aggregate $40,000) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both; and
(b) in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine of not less than $2,000 for each such film in his possession (but not to exceed in the aggregate $80,000) or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.
