I need ur opinion on these three
frankly my uncle has a C180 after trading in his 1.8l Xtrail .I have not have a chance to sit in a C180 but basing on auto magazine reviews , it is generally much improved from the C200K which recieved alot of flak for its lack of luxury design. interior wise, that is
The C180K supercharged inline 4 (156 bhp) base model bests its predecessor and the 3 series but then again, the 3 series has a more refined tranny and more kits such as iDrive.Deciding is hard as the C180K is more expensive and has less kits
imho im not deciding to get these cars, just your humble opinions.
Even though i know you're not buying the cars, i recommend that you/people deciding between the 3 series or merc c class wait for the facelifted version to arrive next year.
Gone are the "ugly" rear which have been quite controversial in the motoring world. The facelift bring a similar-to-coupe lamps to the 3 series saloon.

stick to the topic lah....
to TS...
which magazines have u been reading???
seriously if u read sg motoring magazines.. then is as good as not reading any....
Actually, my advice was to wait till next year for the updated 3 series to compare the two ![]()
If you choose to believe the oldest car magazine in the world, the Autocar UK, then the current generation C-Class beats the 3-Series. Better handling, design, space, etc.
sorry for late reply
mm i see.Although the SAAB 2.0t is nearer to performance as these two.. ugh. its 138k price demand turns me off. but its torque avaiblity from just above 2000 rpm is quite intriguging.
So far. although the BM and IS250 are the only naturally aspirated, the BM being the Inline 4 and the IS a 6 cyl, i would rather go for torque.although no la.. balance of torque and horsepower
imho the IS250 is the best. Engine is very smooth and refined, no grunt. lawl. My 2nd Auntie has it after trading in her SS(Swift Sport) and i had a chance to test drive the car. lack of head and leg room behind! Major turn off for big sized people.

is250 utilizes NA engine.... but its torque output is almost as flat as the turbocharged saab's... better still... while the saab uses front wheel drive... is250 uses rear wheel drive...
if u r interested... i happen to have the dyno chart of the is250 engine...

graph on the right is the engine being used in is250...
and fyi... the mark x uses the same engine... and with a gs300 platform..so perhaps u might want to consider tt car too...
but i do agree tt lack of room is a general complain of is250 owners....
so perhaps u might want to look at the bmw or the merc...
Of all the three cars you've mentioned, the 320i, C200K and the IS250, the C-Class has the most legroom at the back.
One thing worthy to note about the 2.5-litre V6 engine in the IS250, it has direct injection. It might not do wonders for NVH at idling and aural pleasure, but it does wonders for power output. Fuel economy is also much better with direct injection and its dual VVT-i.

Wow. The Dyno chart itself tells alot! (: thanks. Im kinda stuck with a K230UB, 0405, N113CRB and C751B .NOT i own them. until i get my driving license
. Its two more years to go. ugh. cant wait for the test.

Agree on the idling. The 2.5 L is quite a beast although its fuel economy is average. With sky high prices now.
mm Alle and n0x, which car out of the three would you choose?![]()
Definitely the C200K for me.
1) It has a nice retro design and looks very well proportionate.
2) Handling that's on par or even better than the 320i, and supposedly better steering feel than the 320i too.
3) Smooth ride yet not compromising on body control.
4) Supercharged engine having high torque output at low rpm.
5) If comparing C200K and IS250, 2.0-litre engine vs 2.5-litre engine, getting the C200K saves more taxes and costs.
6) The prestige of the three pointed star.

bmw 325i... juz like it... dun ask me why... LOL
but if no money for tt i will go for the is250 next....
dun really liked the c class.. still feels boxy to me....
Since this topic started, i've gone out and tested the following cars:
A4 (1.8 turbo), 320, 325, C180 and C200
I'm not going to go into technical stuff but just purely on the drive feel, value for money and comfort.
The A4 would win hands down on aesthetics and pure driving experience but it is also the second most expensive after the 325. The 325's drive is well known but it obviously is not competing in the same class.
The 320 and C180 were the most comparable in terms of specs.
- torque: C180 surprising wins (320 was sluggish at the start)
- drive: 320 had better handling
- price: at the current promotions, 320 was cheaper at ard 126k while C180 was around 10k more
- comfort: C180 win hands down
- running costs: C180 was cheaper due to lower road tax, insurance and with service thrown in, but depreciation removes any advantage
- exterior look: 320 edges slightly but the C180 avantgarde model looks pretty good too (subjective i suppose)
- interiors: C180 wins hands down again
Overall, C180 was the clear winner. A further comparison between C180 and C200 would show that the extra 30bhp was not worth the extra 15k price as it was essentially the same engine and could be "tweaked". So to answer the original question, which of the three cars would i choose... it would be the C180.
Of course the Merc C180 has better acceleration from a standstill. The C180 has a supercharger working from low revs, endowing it with a healthy amount of torque.
I love this thread.
Just wondering, any Saab or Volvo in the same class to compare as well?
yes. Saab 2.0t
or Volvo S60?

S60 too old. Either downgrade a bit to the S40, or go all the way up to the S80. ![]()
Among thieves, i'd rather u choose the A4. although the 320 and C200 are more"Common", Audi is jumping onto its brandname as an Executive Sedan, namely the A4,A8 S4,S8.While the C200 may seem favourable, the A4's styling is much screwed in interior.
Just dont Order your White A4 with chocolate interior![]()

I used to like Saab cos my dad had one but the ‘new’ models looks cheesy with silvery ‘mascara’ round the lamps.
Volvo is too expensive for it’s many star safety ratings so i’ll pass it too.
Going thru my checklist, Jetta is too Civic and IS250 can only ferry hobits in the rear.
That leave me with C200, A4 and 320. how?
Been to the Super Imports Night for the past 2 days and frankly,
VW Scirocco FTW. ![]()

Hi all,
Went to test drive the GTi. It's freaking awesome but I'm not sure if I wanna be the 'racerboy' category cos I prolly made all racerboy spit on me for my 'uncle-driving' style.
Also, the space is an issue for me cos i love to haul things around town when i have nothing better to do! Moreover, cannot raba raba in the claustrophobic rear seats... :(
That said, it's C200 (damn my pal got it first!) or Audi A4.
But recently, sat in a SL55 and I think I am a roadster convert, baptised and all. Damn, my relatives are gonna be angry with me if i get a used roadster - cos that means no babes in the near future!
Lexus IS250 has garnered pretty substantial good reviews but it's hefty high price of about $142,000 make some turn away to baseline C-Class and 3-Series, Audi A4 instead.
Side tracking a little.....I sometimes wonder how come some young teens in their early 20s can even afford to own such cars with P-plate attached to it. Really admire them. Though I have a licence, given the current situation, even a brand new Vios pose some financial problems already.....
Oh please, it might just be their daddy's car. I have seen P-plate Mercs, BMWs, Audis at my school carpark. Now there's even a black Porsche Cayenne Turbo there, a regular fixture at the engineering school's carpark.

Same here.... Well.... u're right.
