Studio Nue, Yoko Kanno's Macross F Sequel Set for 2008
Television series to feature new galactic fleet, VF-25 variable fighter
The December issue (on sale November 10) of Japan's Newtype magazine previews the characters and the new VF-25 variable fighter design that will appear in Macross F (Frontier), next year's television sequel to the Macross franchise of love triangles, pop music, and robotic mecha. A 25th anniversary program special called "Frontiers of Macross" will broadcast this winter with a retrospective on the previous Macross project and clips from the new series.
The story of Macross F takes place in 2070s (three decades after the last major sequels, Macross Plus and Macross 7) aboard the 11th Macross Frontier super-long-distance colonization fleet with 10 million citizens. Ranka Lee (newcomer Megumi Nakajima, pictured above) is heading to the concert of Macross Frontier's top Galaxy Network idol, Sheryl Nome, when she encounters a pilot trainee named Alto Saotome and when a mysterious enemy attacks the fleet. The story will also feature Ranka's older brother, the veteran pilot Ozma Lee, and the U.N. Forces' latest main variable fighter, the VF-25.
As previously reported, Macross creator Shoji Kawamori of Studio Nue will collaborate with the animation studio Satelight (Macross Zero, Noein) and music composer Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop) for the series. Due to the rigors of composing a television series, Kawamori said that Kanno will be sharing her duties with another composer as she did with The Vision of Escaflowne and Aquarion. Kawamori will oversee the project and design the main variable fighters while Junya Ishigaki (Macross Zero's Destroids, Noein) and Takeshi Takakura (Appleseed movies, Noein) will contribute additional mechanical designs.

Anyone know wats the name of the cartoon liaw?I think you saw the third generation of Macross, where rookie pilot rick hunter (in the 1st generation) became the commander the Earth Defense Forces. He did not appear in the cartoon series as he is suposedly lost in space with the entire SDF 3 fleet.
They have 2 kinds of fighters,Alpha and Beta. Both can transform in Robot mode on Guardian mode (semi-robot). In addition, the Alpha can combine with the Beta for stronger mobility.
The motobike that can transform into a exo-skeleton to fit onto the rider. The motobike is called a Cyclone. There are generally three versions, although there are several customisations by the Earth Defense and reminding freedom fighter elements.
The Battler Cyclone (Mini-missles attachment) as used by Scott Bernard.
The Battler Cyclone (EP40 Pulse laser weapon system) as used by Rand.
The Saber Cyclone (twin high energy saber blades attachment) as used by Lancer aka Yellow Dancer.
The Light Cyclone (Stronger shield attachment, with handheld mini-missile launcher) as used by Rook Battery.
The enemy is the Invid. They are an alien race, aim at cultivating "Flower of Life" or protoculture, which Earth is filled with before their invasion. They are generally weak against Earth forces, but fought using overwhelming numbers. (4 billion Invid units attack Earth in the 1st wave of the Invasion, as compared to 4 million Zentradi warships destroyed in an entire 2 generations of war).

its still too early to give this anime the wow factor, the first ep looks very promising, but it is usual plot of one hero trying to save everyone
i still prefer the plot of gundam 00
in terms of plot setting, gundam 00 is better than macross frontier
but of course, the graphics for macross frontier, is much better, but given that, gundam 00 is HD
but macross frontier emphasis on the CGI effect a lot, it really cost them a bomb, perhaps, this anime series is trying to break into american market.....
