    • Hi guys just wanted to ask, ok. So obviously I can't make it to local university so I've been pondering whether our next door neighbour could offer me a place. One thing good is that the science courses are offered in English. Furthermore, it's relatively cheaper compared to Sg or Australia or UK. I'm referring to university of malaya in kl. What do you guys think?

    • Not all employers will recognise Malaysian degrees. I wonder if civil service in Singapore will recognise it?

Maybe you can call up MOE hotline and check.

The degree has to be offered in tandem with a recognised (eg. Australian) university.

    • Yes, we accept Malaysia degrees.

After all, Singapore and Malaysia used to be one family.

Your P.S.A.T. is equivalent to my P.S.L.E.

Your S.P.M. is equivalent to my O. Level.

Your S.T.P.M. is equivalent to my A. Level.

Your National Univeristies and my National Universities used to be one family.

Malaysia is just next door. We know that place very well. In fact, if not for the government and economics, Singapore and Malaysia are the same.

Of course we accept Malaysia degrees.

The only issue is whether or not you know how to write, listen, speak the Malay language. Malaysia schools use Malay as the main language, unlike here where ours is English. If you do not know the Malay language, it will be very difficult to pursue a degree in a Malaysia university.

    • I'm not sure the Malaysian Government has a lot of slot for International Students.
If you plan to enter University of Malaya.

Because Malaysians especially the majority of Chinese Citizens here, could not score a place in UM. Because of limited space set by the Government's Quota. Eventhough, selection entry of students are from UM itself.

As Chinese and Indians are the two minority groups of Malaysia who mostly goes for STPM and Malays all mostly went to Poly.

Most Chinese with STPM(Malaysian A-Level) who gets STPM 4.00 (4A+) can't even enter UM.

If you are studying for Humanities maybe there is a slot. If Sciences and Engineering is quite limited, as priority was given to Malays, and Malaysian Matriculation students.

Eventually most of us, Chinese and Indians opted for Private Colleges and Unis for Diploma and Degree programs.

    • Hmm, so apparently it's difficult to go into UM? You know what I'm just gonna apply. If I don't get up just go work save up and study somewhere recognised.

    • TS, when you check out the education opportunity offered by our local research or even gahmen's bodies, do you find that they offered scholarship for those so-called 'merit' student into Malaysia's universities if there is any in the first place ??? If you got the 'courage', why don't you try to ask them this question during one of those local yearly career or education fair and hopely you will not be 'offended' by their answers!

Yes! Give you an example. Filipinos who have La Salle University Degree in the Philippines are recognized by the Singapore Government, Ministry of Manpower (MOM) when applying for S-Pass to work in Singapore. And also Malaysia Universities in Malaysia that are accredited by Singapore Government are recognized too in Singapore e.g. MARA, UTM and Private International Universities. There are so many Private International Universities in Iskandar Johor Bahru. Maybe you can registered with one of those International University there since you are living in Johor Bahru. Yes, the cost is lower in Malaysia. Good Luck.
