there is no right or wrong for this, its just a very natural procedure, we hang people who traffic drugs above a certain amount
Drug abusers undergo mandatory rehab. Drug traffickers - death penalty for all the suffering they caused to families and the social structure . I don't care who they are - everyone is equal under the law.Originally posted by Gazelle:1) Do you think that Singapore should soften its law on drugs abuser (especially those who do contribute to our society)?

I do agree with you that if they are selling drugs in the street to minors and they are doing it for money, but the fact is that this is a very small group of friends (at most 30) who are mostly successful working adults, and the pure intention here is for socializing. How much money could you make from selling drug to just 30 people? I do think that these are a bunch of responsible and peace loving people, who are doing this out of curiousity or fun.Originally posted by fymk:Drug abusers undergo mandatory rehab. The death penalty is meant as a deterrent . The drug traffickers have the knowledge that trafficking drugs in Singapore carries the death penalty . They chose to carry the drugs , hence they chose to carry the risk of the death penalty.

What this guy is asking I think is on the justification of the death penalty for Drug Traffickers. for the record, I am still AGAINST the Death penalty.

as for the justification of the death penalty for Drug Traffickers, whats there not to justify? the laws are there, people get hang for that offence, unless you're going to come up with something like, only God has the right, i'll have to say good day to you sir, you seem to be forgetting where you're living

It has already caused all the harmful effects of drugs trafficking. Worse still, they appears to "re-package" drugs into something hip and cause more people to be hooked up to it. I see no reasons why they should be spared.

Well the law is clear . Everyone, be it even the poor ,rich and powerful, are subjected to the law equally.Originally posted by Gazelle:I do agree with you that if they are selling drugs in the street to minors and they are doing it for money, but the fact is that this is a very small group of friends (at most 30) who are mostly successful working adults, and the pure intention here is for socializing. However by hanging them, I am sure the government will bring eternal pain and suffering to all their families, colleagues and friends.

Can you pull the lever to open the trapdoor and send the fellow to his death? Can you face a human being one minute alive, the next as limp as ragdoll..It's very easy for all you hypocrites to mouth oof about Singapore and people taking a risk with their lives. But when push comes to shove, all of you will piss in your pants like the little puerile minds wich you possess, especially those that are so in favor of the death penalty.Remember, you as the public are so-called disconnected both mentally and emotionally from the accused. We are supposed to be liberated from our primitive progenitor. The penal laws here prevent a more socially equitable evolution for our population. We need to have the latitude to realise that we all take responsibilities for our actions, but we do not the moral right to kill anyone.A drug trafficker may traffick, but who consumes?Do you force a person to consume drugs on pain of death? No.He consumes it willingly. He made that choice, whatever ruin he did, he will answer alone.[b]WE DO NOT HAVE THE MORAL AND SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY TO JUDGE A MAN TO DEATH.LIFE IS GRANTED BY GOD.WE ARE NOT GOD. International Convention of Civil Protection and Rights state in Article six - that humans have a right to live - however it MAKES a PROVISION FOR THE DEATH PENALTY.
Universal Declaration of Human Rights : Everyone is equally entitled to the right to live and the right to be free .
Criminals ,however , have infringed on a law abiding citizen's right , they forfeit the right to be free (jail) and in the heinous cases , the right to live (death penalty). Now if we want to argue the way u do - human rights also state that no cruel and unusual treatment should occur to human beings. So are jails even supposed to be there since it comes under the right to be free .and it is also a form of cruel and unusual treatment . Well I am sorry ,my friend, the human rights declaration has made provisions for that too. So jails are here to stay.
The death penalty is an issue which have no end to who is right or wrong. Yes I am pro death penalty. So what? The blood is not on the legislation but on the individual who commits the crime despite knowing the penalties his action will invoke .

Originally posted by fymk:Well, your argument is that the blood be on the one that flouts the law, but you still have not given a coherent reason as to how we as humans have the spiritual authority to KILL a person. It is murder, only that it is state-sanctioned vengeance based on a precept that a state is morally upright and is almost God-like to possess such rights.Nothing created by man can stand up to the scrutiny of Man.Our institutions have brought it upon themselves to judge who lives and who dies.It is a mark of a morally bankrupt society tjhat hides behind the veil of "an eye for an eye" to justify a legal killing of a human being.
