A majority of Singaporeans said that they were genuinely cheered by President George W. Bush’s re-election last week. Said Singapore citizen Mr. Chin Ah Heng, “Last time we used to think we were living in a really condemned country, but now we know that it could be worse.”
Bukit Gorblok resident Mrs Boo-Yao Chee Mei Guo concurred: “Wah lau, people always criticize Singapore, but you know, at least we’re not living in a country where the people are stupid enough to re-elect someone who blatantly bluffed the electorate about improving their economy while passing all the business to giant companies run by their kakis.”
“That’s why!” agreed Mr. Stayalingam s/o Quittasamy at a coffee shop in Jalan Busok. “I don’t think I could live in a place where someone’s put into office through his dad’s connections, but where the media is constantly pretending it’s through meritocracy.”
