From what I've heard it was for trials purposes only, not actual purchase...Originally posted by YourFather:Singapore has the Shrike? Jeezes, that's OLD equipment....
Hmmm...no idea if this is complete but I'm sure are confirmed(from RSAF Open houses/declassified RSAF photos/weapons contract news on US DoD websites etc):Originally posted by YourFather:Can anybody list the Air Force's inventory of munitions? Those that are more 'confirmed' ones, not Python 4 or Derby.
I wonder if they use it on the F-16 or the Fokker MPA.Originally posted by Viper52:AGM-84 Harpoon ASMs
I have got a suggestion, maybe ST Aero or some ST subsidary could disassemble the old Sidewinders, learn the IIR technology and reverse engineer to produce a Singapore-made AAM. We could even get the Isreali, South African or the Taiwanese to help us build one that is at least a 3rd gen WVR missiles. RSAF would then only need to purchase 4th gen missiles from foreign source. I would reckon Python 4/ASRAAM and AIM-9X would be good candidate. Of course rumours has it that RSAF had already got the Python 4 in its inventory....
There are some phased out systems:
AIM-9G
AIM-9J
The French are marketing an ASW version of the AS532UL Cougar(which is the military name of the AS332M Super Puma) which can also carry Exocets in the anti-shipping role. In fact the French are using the Cougar for a shitload of tasks, much like the Americans with their Blackhawk derivatives. They've got utility, ASW, anti shipping, CSAR and who knows what else...Originally posted by Shotgun:Can super-pumas be used as ASW helicopter platforms?
Typo...I meant RSNOriginally posted by Shotgun:RSAN?? But basically, the Pumas CAN be converted for ASW duties right?
Well...the Cougar's still in the running for the RSN naval helo contract, for what thats worth, but I have a feeling that the Seahawk is the favourite as its the most capable IMO in the ASW role. If we get the SH-60 we'll then know whats replacing the UH-1s...Originally posted by Shotgun:I see. Most likely that we would get another platform for ship based ASW then.
Hmmm...heres what I know:Originally posted by YourFather:Black Hawk is the designation for Army H-60s, but the Spec Ops version is the MH-60, which also bears the Black Hawk name. The naval variants are slightly different, though. The sea utility version(CH-60) will be called the Knight Hawk. Current upgrades to the sea model will bring them to the SH-60R, the future common baseline model.
But aren't AIM-9P-4 and AIM-9S 3rd generation WVR missiles already?Originally posted by Joe Black:I have got a suggestion, maybe ST Aero or some ST subsidary could disassemble the old Sidewinders, learn the IIR technology and reverse engineer to produce a Singapore-made AAM. From what I have read, NH-90 is the favourite. It seems like the La Fayatte purchase will have mainly French or European contents including Exocet SSM, Aster 15/30 SAM, NH-90 anti-sub Helo. Of course nothing is confirm until official statement from RSN/Mindef. Another thing is that a lot of these rumours are generated by sales people or unconfirmed reports including Janes.Originally posted by Viper52:Well...the Cougar's still in the running for the RSN naval helo contract, for what thats worth, but I have a feeling that the Seahawk is the favourite as its the most capable IMO in the ASW role. Yeah we're packing those 6 babies full of French equipment aren't we? I did think that way too, but lets not forget the Puma/Cougar is also French. I don't know much about the Cougar and NH90 ASW capabilities, but from what I see, I do feel that the SH-60 is an extremely capable ASW platform.Originally posted by Joe Black:From what I have read, NH-90 is the favourite. Man...I'm really behind on my helo knowledge. I thought the LAMPS III was the -60F...it should be the R instead...I stand corrected...Originally posted by YourFather:F? Why get F when they are getting to the much better R version? No no NO! It better be R, or we go European, heh heh...
Oh... its up to the S variant now... http://defence-data.com/current/page13545.htmOriginally posted by YourFather:I just did some research on the MH-60R, yes, its MH-60R and not SH-60R now, got me a little confused. Looks like I'm a little behind too, but then the H-60 family series is so damned huge, its easy to get mixed up. Also, the MH-60R is now called the 'StrikeHawk', and should be just entering USN service this year.
