so who suffer?? THE PEOPLE of s'pore.
how to solve the problem? MORE taxi license MORE taxis on the road = MORE money for gahmen. then LESS income for taxi drivers coz MORE competition.
Who contribute to this? taxi drivers! y?
coz they r hiding and making the situation looks like there is not enough taxis. who is the wiser? u decide!

Excuse me? We making things difficult for them? More likely it is the other way round. they give themselves a bad name by bringing poor people like me for a joy ride and charging me more than the normal. Although I agree tt some are doing an honest living, it seems that most taxi drivers are part timers looking to earn a quick buck frm poor students like me. So of course in order to have a higher profit margin, they hide and wait for calls and bring ppl for joy ride lor.Originally posted by gasband:Sometimes I tend to sympathise with taxi drivers on these matters. you see if they dun take a break at around 11pm, they would not have a chance to do so till maybe after 2am or so. So why not they take a break at 11pm and they win both ways cos they will have a break and still earn more later, this is the mind of running your own business rite? I find in this case, I find nothing wrong... I mean if you can afford to take a taxi, what is a $3.20 booking fee to you? Or else like me last time before I had a car, take Night rider and then take a 15 minutes walk home....
As taxi uncles said to me, taxi drivers are poor people who are trying to earn money from poor people like us. Why make things difficult for them?

It is interesting to note.. that taxi drivers do complain about low margins, but they don't seem to ask for lower rental fees, which is the bulk of the cost. And the competitor companies all charge roughly the same rates, which suggests that that either economies of scale is not giving benefits or some companies are making exceptional profits.Originally posted by glassdance:but if they fail at making a profit, then y blame others?
