PAP Govt shows a Bad Lead
Since the start of the speak madarin campaign,no dialect programme are allowed in TV8.The govt knows dialect drama serials programme have influence on the language habit of Chinese.So now the govt is going to approve a casino,wouldn't the casino have bad influence on the ppl?
The PAP govt wants to collect EASY taxes from gambling.It shows a bad example to the ppl.What if most of the loyal S'pore citizens want to earn EASY money too? -

The govt ministers would make the final decision on the issue of opening a casnino.If PM is in favour of having it,do any ministers (except SM) who are his subordinates dare to strongly argue against PM?This was probably the kind of debates in the cabinet!
Why weren't there public debates on this issue between ministers & govt critics?I would like to debate with ministers publicly.

After LKY delivered his speech last night on the subject of casinos in S'pore, bookies have stopped taking bets on whether Gahmen would give the go-ahead for the development of casinos here.
Looks like I've got a big winner in hand. -
Well, I'm looking for a min $15,000 per annum New Singapore Share with the coming of the Casino. Hopefully, that'd improve individuals' personal economy as well.
Else what's the use of having a Casino for Singaporeans whereby only the economic figures go up, yet Singaporeans remain dry from the billions gamblers (eg) from China would throw onto the table?

The best argument for having casino is it would create many jobs.Has govt run out of ideas to create more jobs for S'pore in future and has to resort to depend on gambling business?
Perhaps the govt should engage an economic advisor from foreign country or consider engaging me? -

Another strong argument for building a casino is neighboring countries have it so we should have one lest we lose the competitiveness.Casino is not good,so we shouldn't have one.It is as simple as that!
Our neighboring countries are poor but S'pore is rich.So let them earn some money,don't be so kiasu, govt ministers!Macau earn a lot of money from Hong Kong people in gambling but Hong Kong govt doesn't intend to build a casino.You see,HK govt is not as kiasu as S'pore govt. -

I am no pro-casinosie, but as much as I don't like to get fat, I still eat ice-creams. Go and see. From the govt's point of view, since thingy more or less set, it should be getting a free toy for tourists to play, while hoping Singaporeans (after funds come in, and thingy built) stop gambling there and even restrict later.
There is such thought that the Casino actually would make losses in the early years. Kekekeke... Later, may even replace the Casino with a mega-Cafeteria after a few years citing certain reasons. Happens all the time.
It's kinda a risky business. -

NTUC Chief commented that there could be 10000 jobs generated in Singapore if there is a casino each on Sentosa and Marina.
I bet to differ. My last trip to genting, I happened to take a cable ride with a Genting staff. And he is from Mainland China. If Genting is recruiting from China, I couldn't comprehend how our casinos can remain competitive.
Perhaps just playing with words, yes 10000 jobs generated in Singapore, but not necessary for Singaporeans or PRs. -

this is the first time the government is willing to go more liberal.. to allow the citizen the "choice" to become a gambler (or not).. i'd say why not?
as singaporeans, i think it's time for us to think for ourselves.. and not to let the government decides what we can do or not..
p.s., i'm not a gambler.. i dont even buy 4d, toto, big sweep, i dont even donate to NKF (since it has become one big "lucky" draw).. -

singapore has one of the lowest unemployment rates ard.. ard 3.7%..
some european countries' (germany for example) are as high as 8-10%.. -

What is it today that is different. Can our government leaders led us to a new millinenium.
What has changed. Economic dynamics. Does it takes a scholar to tell us that casino makes money. If we succeed, does that means that Singapore will forever be changed, i mean our social values of honesty, thrive and generosity. Will we degenerate into a money-obssessed nation with no regards to our fellow-countryman.
if we failed, what is our recourse. Close down the casino.What is next.
It is scaring, it means that Singapore no longer has a choice. Casino is for survival. It is not about Singaporeans maturity, it is for Survival, in the next 20 - 50 years.
Think, how can we help our beloved Singapore. What changed can we bring about to our education system, the epitome of our pure academic acheivers, where these "classroom" leaders will lead us. Are we having too much emphasis on academic acheivements. What can we do to ensure that our next generation leaders are streetsmart, extraordinary, destined for high office and be a truly statesman like LKY. Can there be another LKY.
Where is Singapore strategic advantage, a tiny red dot in the world. What can we do to make Singapore a humane, meritocratic, and fair society where Singaporeans welfare are considered first and foremost by the government.

the casino, will not just bring gambling alone (since there are so many other forms of gambling ard.. 4d, toto, margin trading in stocks, mahjong, strike, etc, etc, etc).. but it can potentially create a more vibrant society that singapore is not well-known of..
stating that casino will bring all those ill-effects on the society is just like arguing that TV violence are related to those real life mass-murderers.. didn't what's-his-name conclusively show that such relationships are ill-conceived? at the end of the day, it's government policy (availability of guns, and their own "aggressive" position in international policy) that mostly likely drive such behaviours?
similarly, having a casino will not necessarily cause more people to gamble.. esp in these days when, if u r a gambling addict, u can turn online to bet.. u can even save the transport to sentosa or marina.. -
