dear Kheldorin, if it appears to you that we have all been whining then that is most unfortunate. we are here to express our concern about a fundamental change in our core values, of what seems acceptable and what is not, of crossing the boundary that separates right from wrong and going down the path of no return.
if a family has reached such a state of destituteness that it has no choice but to engage in questionable means of making a living, it can at least say it has no choice. but if a man in desiring to maintain his lifestyle of extravaganze chooses to inculprit the entire family, then that is something altogether different.
as for suggestions about the 'integrated resort', details of the various proposals are sketchy, so there's nothing much we can do about. we are neither distinguished architects nor experienced 'resort' operators so it's best we leave the conceptualisation to the experts. we can make simple comments like not too much glass or we risk having another durian but beyond that, i think we wait and see.
as for gambling problems, if they really care, they can set up an IRAS booth at the entrance and allow only citizens with annual income greater than half a million to go in. -

Blinds touch an elelphant
A minister said oppponets to casino are like the blinds touching an elephant.Casino is the controversial element in the IR project.Of course ppl debate over this.
Without casino, investors are not interested with the project.Casino is the main profit gainer for IR althou it may occupy only a small area of IR.So it is a significant elelment of the project and deserve the debates. -

Tthe govt doesn't directly run the IR but govt-linked company joined hand with foreign firm to run the project.

Success is uncertain
PM was honest when he said he didn't know whether the decision on IRs with casino would be a right one.The economic success of the project is hard to predict but it would increase the social cost is certain.But the money-minded govt must still proceed with it. -
I am confused. One minister ( I think is...or don't know... Recently, in the TV dialodge with some ''people'' I don't how genuine are these people. The PM said.. Today, my or our government's decision maybe right, but it may turned out to be wrong in future and vice visa. So...I wonder if he is committed to what he is doing. I am also confused. -
Why didn't Singapore think of this idea a few years back? There would be no need to build the 2 IDs from scratch. Instead, the National Stadium could have been redeveloped to include an entertainment complex incorporating the casino.

10 years ago people china is poor and there r very few cities, now china is rich and powerful. Last time Iraq is under control of Saddam Hussein, now he is captured by American. Last time singapore is growing and is called one of the 4 tigers, now Singapore is facing problem to improve its economy. Situation have changed, viewpoint have to change. I don't see changing of viewpoints or making changes as weaknesses. I see them as strength. The only unchanging thing in tis world is there r always changes. Tis is called continuous improvement isn't it ?

Having more people who views havign a casino is beneficial (,including you,) simply shows how successful the govt's brainwashing has been. and THAT is certainly NOT an improvement in the social maturity and political awareness of Singaporeans.

Hopefully the ones who win will squander their money everywhere, in Orchard road, get heart attack, go Gleneagles/ Raffles Medical or John Hopkins medical center.
The poor who can't control their desire to gamble gets hunted down by Tai Yee Long and govt don't have to worry anymore about them. Import more educated Indians and Chinese and beg them to take up PRships.
If the indebted poor get addicted, their medisave will be emptied into psychiatric therapies. Govt will feel a pinch from the subsidies but think how it will boost the pharmaceutical and medical industry here. With world class medical facilities here, can woo rich tycoons Dads who are interested in sending wayward heirs for addiction-therapies and 5-star suites and services in the medical centers.
If suay suay the IR don't make money, always got the chance that govt can sell it at high price to the emerging Chinese powers eg CTI (zhong xin) corporation?
IR will be a success, just like 117th IOC ceremony! -

After 40 years of the Singapore POLITICAL Agenda being dominated and set by the Ruling Party, with little alternative input from the population (including members of the Opposition Parties) being sincerely considered, what else can we expect from the Ruling Party -
when after losing US$500Million of Government Funds in a poor investment at MICROPOLIS is considered by then Finance Minister to be " tuition fee " ;
when the CEO (the tai tai of the present PM) is so wilful as to state that given the same opportunity she will still repeat the decision to invest in MICROPOLIS - despite the fact that expert advise had earlier been given not to proceed ;
when the Ruling Party can approve the reinstatement of the 10% pay cut from their Ministers, before the economy is fully recovered, and with unemployment rate still remaining at 4.5% ;
when the "tai tai" of the Ruling Elite is so familiar with the fat pay checks of their ministerial husband, that a $600,000 salary with TWELVE MONTHS BONUS is considered "PEANUTS" - considering that the 12 MONTHS BONUS were paid from Public Charity in 2003 and 2004, which was a crisis period for Singaporeans - who were asked to make sacrifices and accept SALARY "ADJUSTMENTS", CPF CUTS, and to accept STRUCTURAL CHANGES to their jobs - (and who despite these demands imposed on ordinary Singaporeans, they still had a charitable heart to donate to the PEANUT size Reserves from which the 12 MONTHS BONUS were drawn from !!! )
The moral values of the leaders and their families will be a mirror of the standard for the country .
Have we reached the end of the "bread line" created by the First and Second Generation Political Leaderships, so much so that the Third Generation from the Ruling Party will have to open PANDORA'S BOX to look for a solution to take Singapore out from the present economic quagmire ? -
Singaporeans are not stupid when it comes to $$$$$. They will smarten up after being bitten once or twice. They will hold on to their pockets after that. But look at the long term. The $$$$$$$ that the casinos will bring in for Singapore year after year after year . In fact, every Singaporean should become a Tour Guide and bring tourists and guests to the IRs without restrictions. They should proudly stand behind the Great Lion City Spinning Wheels and watch them bring in the big $$$$$$bucks from overseas with gleaming faces and certainty of better times ahead.
