Better than wives spending big bucks on SK2 face products. Protein is supposed to be good for skin anyway.Originally posted by FireIce:legalizing porn will thwart govt's plans for couples to have more babies
cos the guys will start shooting in their wives' faces
i worry abt the social effects of a local porn industry on a small population as ours. i would be ok with legalising porn, but i advocate some serious consideration first. however it is not fair to legalise porn in a country where sexual liberation is not even begun yet and sexual equality for women is a joke, and where there are men such as Gazelle with deplorable views on women.Originally posted by ObviousMan:HereÂ’s how the argument for legalization of the sex and porn industry can go.
Let’s not look at the issue as a “money vs morals” question.
---1) We know that the internet is a source of pornography
---2) We know that there are people who travel overseas for sex
---3) We know that there are hookers in our shopping districts, HDB coffeshops hawking their services.
---4) AIDS is a growing problem in Singapore.
---5) Maybe someone can help supply me an estimate of how much money is spent on all these so that I can convince people that even without legalising the sex and porn industry, money is being leaked out of the economy.
The solution: --- make the sex and porn industry legal.
Get some groups to help run the sex and porn industry. The consultants will of course do a feasibility study before submitting proposals for the government to vet. And the people will be consulted, and as usual some vocal minority will make a huge mountain out of a molehill --- but of course, govt knows best.
So there you have it. Does it remind you of some other issue?![]()
Free-thinkers because it's considered adultery for the Christians and the Muslims to even look at a woman with lust in their hearts. Hindus and buddhists? I don't really know but I'm sure it's not allowed. I know buddhists have strong morals so...I think a devout Buddhist won't go for such things.Originally posted by stupidissmart:I am just curious about another forumite reply on saying tat porn will only benefit free thinkers. Why specially target on free thinkers ? I am pretty sure a lot of christian/catholic america/british see porn as well.
The issue with the porn and sex industry is similar to the gambling industry. It is not that porn is totally unavailable in Singapore. Porn can be viewed on the web, and if you want you can go to Yangtze cinema for adult show. Similarly, it is not that gambling is not available in Singapore. There is Toto, 4D, Big Sweep, Horse-racing, SCORE, etc. The question is whether we should develop it as a tourism attraction.Originally posted by foxwalk:i worry abt the social effects of a local porn industry on a small population as ours. i would be ok with legalising porn, but i advocate some serious consideration first. however it is not fair to legalise porn in a country where sexual liberation is not even begun yet and sexual equality for women is a joke, and where there are men such as Gazelle with deplorable views on women.
You know the hazards of drug abuse and its implication on society? I do not welcome the idea of giving others freedom to wreak my own.Originally posted by witness:R(A) movies are essentially not pornographic.
That would be obvious to anyone who has actually watched a pornographic movie.
Pornographic movies focus on just one thing -- the sex act itself. Everything else is secondary.
Should Singapore legalise porn?
Probably yes, with safeguards for children. In the name of greater freedom, and based upon the principle that all things should be allowed unless they threaten to directly harm others.
In a sense, issues like porn, drugs and casinos share a common element. They all allow a greater measure of freedom for individuals, allowing them to choose the kind of life they want to lead.
For a start, the word pornography should be re-labelled as erotica.
I think our government should consider setting up legalized "coffee shop", similar to those in Amsterdam. I believe such a move will help to kill off all other type of drug use (especially hard drugs) and at the same time prevent "innocent" harmless people from getting their life and career ended because of minor drug offense. If we are worried about the impact on the society, we can limit the number and location of coffee shops and only tourist and adult are allowed to patronize.Originally posted by witness:Our laws against drug abuse reflect the traditional biases that we inherited from more conservative times.
Alcohol abuse, nicotine abuse are also ruinous but they are tolerated.
It is actually meaningless to talk of drug abuse as an undifferentiated issue. Some kinds of drug abuse may be tolerable. Some other drugs should probably remained banned. But banning drugs in itself adds a whole new dimension to the drugs problem.
NO WAY!!!!Originally posted by Gazelle:I think our government should consider setting up legalized "coffee shop", similar to those in Amsterdam. If Singapore want to be bold, we must be bold enough to shock the world.
If we can have world class entertainment complex, casino, shopping district, legalized prostitution, and coffee shops, i think there will trememdous potential to make singapore one of the must see city in this world.
Tourists like singapore because it is safe and it is clean . It is a shopping and eating haven for them. My friends in australia enjoy Singapore because in Singapore they do not have to worry about "druggies" out in the street. Tourists are just transientOriginally posted by Gazelle:I think our government should consider setting up legalized "coffee shop", similar to those in Amsterdam. Tourists are just transient occupants of Singapore. Many american thinks that Singapore is a city for canning, while the british think that singapore is a disneyland with death sentence.
Do the amsterdam coffeeshop and you get your tourist-repellant druggies out there who pester them for money like in australia. No tourists would want to come back again.Statistic does show that Amsterdam attract about 7 million tourist per year and coffee shop and red light district are the MUST see attraction in holland.
Singapore is already the must see south-east asian country with a squeaky clean image . Singapore is already the shopping and eating paradise. Why should we spoil this image for the benefits of a few oversexed persons who don't care so much about the social consequences? If Singapore squeaky clean image can last forever, our government wont have allowed bar top dance, club to operate 24 hours, bungee jumping and proposing to have casino.
i think you are for porn because number 1, you like porn. number 2, you like porn. number 3, you like porn.Originally posted by Gazelle:If Singapore squeaky clean image can last forever, our government wont have allowed bar top dance, club to operate 24 hours, bungee jumping and proposing to have casino.
Not all tourist are like your Australian friend who are only interested in eating and shopping. Have you ever wonder why the rich and famous people dont come to singapore for holiday? Answer : It is boring and they have places like Monaco to go to.
