of coz not. so the rest just hide somewhere safe huh? I can understand for those children and elderly, but what about able-bodied people? What exactly will they be doing? What is their roles in times of war? Are they trained to handle such situations?

medical help = we need trained people in order to save lives. every second counts.
Yes, a short course on first aid will help ALOT. I would prefer more indepth training, much like a medic's so that we can free up even more people to be in the combat vocation. First Aid alone can do only very little tho, but better than none. I would also suggest refresher courses every year. -

not everyone is as strong emotionally as you..
to me protecting the country, thou impt, comes 2nd
family comes 1st for me.. so i need them to be safe and not at the front line w me..

the rest consist of children and elderly and women..

Good point on the $$ problem. However, I think it is a small issue considering the importance of full support in 'Total Defense'. In many wars, many soldiers die becoz of insufficient medical support. Also there are many other fields worth considering, not only combat or medical. Logistics are vital too. Refresher courses are important becoz many people forgets stuff like this over a few years time. It is similar to the reason why we have reservists and ICT. -
