Hi all, I am a newbie to the forum.
Just come across this interesting topic about the core business of NTUC.
My uncle is an agent of NTUC Income and I used to hear him say that NTUC Income is a company that provides more than insurance. Although insurance is the core business of Income, it also provides a wide range of special benefits including, competitive loans, 24-hour repair services, domestic cleaning services, house moving service, tuition service and health screenings.
He also told me that Income being a cooperative is different from other insurance companies like AIA, Great Eastern. Unlike these companies who place the interests of the shareholders as the priority, Income has always placed the interests of its policyholders foremost.
That's basically what I know.

im surprise so many complain about NTUC. to be frank. i think it good because we start to question the role and function NTUC will play into this decades. i dont mind about NTUC being in the supermarket business or insurance business as long as the objective is the keep cost of living down. NTUC did set a benchmark for price in products and services. whether high or low, consumer do have a choice of their own.
but i dislike about NTUC is the work done for the union workers and they should be seperated from PAP and not join any political party. one head indeed cannot wear 2 hats. NTUC need to send a clear signal to the public whether they are parrots of the PAP or independant organisation that fight for the worker of singapore and not a ground for NTUC executive to advance their poltical career at the expenses of union member welfare.

selling a low price doesnt mean cannot make a profit. nor selling a high price products can make a profit.
SAAB sell high end car but GM lost money in this company.
in China, TV are selling cheap price but they can still make a profit.
I dont know how much profit they make, but the price of our products found in the supermarket are not much expensive compare to Malaysia supermarket and in many items, singapore supermarket are selling cheaper. If consumer feel econ minimart, carrefour, Giant are selling much cheaper, they have a choice. If consumer feel NTUC car insurance policy are not good, they can have alliance, AIG, many other smaller company. we do have a choice. these company can wrestle the consumer away from NTUC if they can provide better services and value for money for consumer. in the end,isnt it what consumer want, value for money.
but workers doesnt have any more choice if their union are not protecting their interest. -

NTUC is not charity organisation and they never say they are. they are still a profitable organisation which they say they never deny.
having promotion is just a marketing strategy to get customer visiting regularly to the supermarkets. because it quite unlikely u do all the way to NTUC supermarket to buy just one promotion items.
it no big deal, if price in provision ship is cheaper, please support them. NTUC is rich enough.
Think NTUC more than the place for your weekly grocery shopping place.
