I told the govt the policy was wrong some years ago.But they did not take action to change it.Probably due to lack of pressures form the ppl or the oppositon. This is the kind of govt we have.So I think it should quit. And I think that if you'd quit too, we'd all be a lot happier

There are other good criteria to prioritise estates for upgrading but the govt chose an improper criterion to do it due to selfishness.Do they abuse their power? What is the punisment for such action?
Agreed. That's what the Ukrainians did last Nov to Dec...they stood up against their autocratic govt and Russia to make sure the current President was elected!Originally posted by miong:PRP
Dont ask for the impossible..........
........but then again, why wait for PAP Government to resign?
It's within our collective power, call it 'people power' if you like, to translate our unhappiness into anti-PAP votes - and remove bootlicking PAP MPs from Government offices !
We should make PAP MPs work very hard to get back our votes in the future.
They arent paying attention to us right now because to them every election would be a breeze for PAP.
And we made them feel that way!
even billionaires can go bankrupt if kenna sued.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Our billionaires' sons.Hope some of them have a strong sense of duty and believe in fighting for their rights.
Give me your reason why i should quit. Can u speak for many ppl?And can YOU speak for the people when you ask the government to resign? Do you know what kind of turmoil it will cause? The ruling party has almost completely interwoven with the government and the civil service. Your wet dream of getting the government to resign may sit well with you, but do you think the country can still function without a judiciary, legislature, or cabinet? We don't have an oppostion large or experienced enough to replace the incumbent. Who's going to run the country, YOU?
Agreed. That's what the Ukrainians did last Nov to Dec...they stood up against their autocratic govt and Russia to make sure the current President was elected! We could do that. But I doubt Singaporeans have the courage to stand up and take to the streets like the Ukrainians did, or even the Fillipinos during 'People Power.' Look, most crowds don't even have the social responsibilty to help someone being attacked by Bengs. Storming the Istana is not only ridiculous but also goes against the grain of most Singaporeans, and mob rule usually comes to a sticky end without good leaders to follow up. Look how many twits the Indonesians have put in power after Suharto.
We shd do that bit by bit too!
PAP leaders are honest & decent ppl.Now coming from someone who supposedly hates the government, I find this sentiment quite amusing. Clever and efficent I give it to them. Honest and decent?
Our billionaires' sons.Hope some of them have a strong sense of duty and believe in fighting for their rights. And how do you think they got to be billionaires?
The electorates of the opposition wards votes for oppostion MPs.The 2 oppostion MPs (one of whom is a lawyer) should fight for their rights when their constituencies are discirminated against for estates upgrading.Don't you think they've tried? Chiam tried to bing up the issue of Potong Pasir lift upgrading in Parliment, and was as usual ignored.
Which Singaporean ever win a law suit agst the govt?Originally posted by PRP:Is there a group of civic-minded lawyers who would sue the govt for its abuse of power on this policy?

The PAP's promise that constituencies which voted for PAP would get priority for estates upgrading is an offence uner the Parliamentary Elections Act.It was simply bribing the voters and the govt then fulfil the promise.Jeya said it was vote buying.Since the promise is against the law,PAP leaders concerned should have been prosecuted & punished.
Not only the tactic is corrupt,it is the thinking that the govt need not discharge its duties fairly & it can favour the ruling party that is dangerous.Civil servants might also think it is alright to use thier official responsibilities to favour anyone whom they like or for other selfish reasons.
The PM who initiated the policy has already become SM.Other ministers who agree with him should also go.
The govt should go.I believe I can take over.
What make u so sure? You havent even give them a chance to play the cards.Originally posted by dlareg:Dunno wat to say about most of the comments.
Yes the PAP may be playing an unfair hand here. But if given the chance to let whoever wants the PAP out, think they'll be playing the cards in the same fashion.
Not only that,GCT also come out with the idea of GRC election system, knowing fully well that the opposition might not be able to come out of enough candidates of different races to participate in the general election. And PAP keep finding excuses to disqualify the opposition candidates also make things more difficult for the opposition leaders to cope with the election. One thing says it all,the word "fairness" in GCT's mind already long gone after he get constantly screwed by Lou Lee after he had succeeded PM post.Originally posted by PRP:When one has a unfair mind,he would think out an unfair policy. The reason that the govt can't upgrade all estates in one shot is merely an excuse.I wouldn't come up with such an unfair policy if i were to govrn the country.
Besides,GCT used the policy to bride voters to vote for his party during the general elections.
Yes,it is difficult to sue the govt. The govt's lawyer is AG.Chiam See Tong sued PAP leaders for slander successfully & they settled the case out of the court. So there is still hope.Originally posted by lwflee:Going to court requires money. Further, if you lose i think you may be ordered to pay the other's costs. And you know the government doesn't hire cheap lawyers. Who is willing to take the risk?
