GRC system has been around since 1988. That time, only 3 men were needed. The number has been doubled since 1997. I just hope LHL will reduce the size of the GRCs during the next election. After all, his dad said 3 men per GRC was about enough. I think most Singaporeans are too engrossed in chasing the 5 or 7 Cs to care about politics. So be it and just wait till theres more economic and social issues to jolt everyone up...so the quake or tsunami didn't hit us, but what about other problems that are 'so near yet so far'. Can one sleep through the effects of globalization and other world issues or let them drown our complacency? Don't we just like to think we are the world's first in everytihng? When it hits, it will be very strong, sharp and painful...The political maturity iss still very low and to see just whos the white and black sheep, engage in frivilous speculations or to assasinate the characters of opposition members just because we are told this or that won't be useful. And those talk about being gracious, or getting more youth involved and perhaps express their 'teenage angst' doenst seem very practical. What's the solution, well, I am not paid 5 figure salaries to be the think tank? BTW, what is the use of those lift upgrading? Say, if someone lives on the 2nd or 3rd floor, wouldn't it be faster to use the stairs? How much will it increase the value of the flats? Stairs would be good for exercise..or there will be more cases of morbid obesity. Much as I disagree with many governmental policies, the government cannot resign now. Who's going to take over? Who has the capability to run the country now after all these years of single party rule? Chiam See Tong cannot tong his constituency much longer, considering his age and as for Chee Soon Juan, the less said the better. In case you haven't realized, we do not have a shadow cabinet ready to take over if the government resigns or collapses.
When I cannot stand living here any longer or if things look back, I'll go elsewhere... -
I think Low Thia Khiang will make a good Prime Minister & Education Minister. Sylvia Lim & Poh Lee Guan are high-calibre people. But the WP is too small. How about a coalition government with NSP? I agree Low Thia Kiang is a decent MP, in fact, he is much better than most government MPs. But Prime Minister? I want to see if he can inspire high quality people to step up and win seats first. As for coalition government, I have not seen too much synergy between the opposition party MPs in parliament or outside parliament.

A government that sells its soul to the devil and allows one major vice into its shores should not hold on to power any more. It is obvious LKY's control over his son is waning, if not why did he make a dramatic u-turn on the casino issue (which has been mentioned in other threads)?

What is "speak up properly"? Write posts at YP BBS? write letters to ST or TODAY or TNP? Speak at the Speakers' Corner? all yield the same result - the govt never listens TRUELY.
Barring someone leading a military insurgency, displacing the govt is extremely difficult, given all the soft hidden power they exert on the electoral process and the press. Any good suggestions by opposition will merely be filtered out by the govt-controlled media or censored and summarized such tt the real content is not revealed to the pple.
And btw, I think this forum has the largest amt of supported views among all the local and foreign political forums I have visited.

As for the scandal: How certain is it tt his wife wasn't manipulated by the govt or not serving as a (secret) govt "agent" in any way?
We simply don't know any details except those tt our biased local media provide, and our local media are rarely, if not never, objective about local issues.

Every mean must have an end, and if getting "the government to resign" had been your means in order to acheive an end, namely the betterment of the lives of Singaporeans, you would have my support.
However, as can be seen from the above post, the resignation of the government is the END, for you at least. Your sole objective seems to be getting the govt to resign. When others challenge you to prove that you have something better to replace it with, you flippantly dismiss these concerns, with a heck-care attitude no less.
Implying that what you want to do is to get the government to resign first, before carrying on with the next phase of action, without elaborating on what will happen in the transition period.
I don't think I need to explain the 'absurbity' of this, because even a toddler realises that you cannot take action without first thoroughly planning what the next step will be.

Simple fact is the PAP does not want anyone else except themselves to run the country. They are not more exceptional or capable than any average man on the street, although the controlled press tells the world otherwise.
