Agreed. To have a critical eye is to help yourself come to a better understanding of things around you.Especially in SG where the apparent things are not so apparent.Originally posted by Xprobe:Hey xvii,
Some honest advice, really. I guess you must be young, do yourself a favor, keep a sensitized view and observe how rules and decisions are made around you during your process of growing up. Be it your parents, school or the government. Dont always accept the given verdict/ answer. Do not believe those that you perceive are "higher ups" always make the right choices or is always smarter. They are humans too, just like chiobus, they fart and sheet like us. There are gods in this world. If you take the official answers dished to you for granted too much, your mind becomes lazy and by the time you hit a mature age whereby you need to make major decisions in your life with major consequences, you wont be able to make good quality judgements.
Seek alternative media channels to get informed besides the straitstimes. Especially read the point of views of so-called banned publications. You must learn to ask why. When you ask why often enough, things will start to become clearer to you. You must cultivate the ability pass independent judgement, it is a very very valuable gift.
well I wouldn't say it is pointless. But really, there was a bloody SOP. They should have stuck to the SOP. 'Nuff said.Originally posted by crazy monkey:So is the POW training stopped permanently ? Nothing seem to have been said about that. The type of training seem pretty pointless.
Originally posted by ShutterBug:yes the trial is BS and the sentence is a cruel joke to many of us who have connections with the people involved. But it is a cruel joke in a way different to what u imagine it to be.
Personally, till this date, I still cannot understand how "digging the trainee's nostril to prevent him from holding his breath while he is dunked in a tub of water", can be construed as a 'Rash and Ignorant Act'???? It is a PURPOSEFUL act, and one that led to the trainee's death by drowning!!!
How can even the word IGNORANT be used? Since when does a person live, when he doesn't hold his breath underwater? Since when was digging a person's nostril to prevent him from holding his breath, regarded as IGNORANT??? Rash, I can identify with. But certainly the fact that if one breaths in water one shall die, cannot be a fact that is easily IGNORED.
The trial has a lot of BS if you ask me.
The sentence is still a cruel Joke to me....
With so much cover up can the Singapore judicial system still be trusted ?Originally posted by Gedanken:Oh boy, here we go again.
Okay, just as a quick run over what's been said here and in other threads:
Those who suspect that making the sentences heavier would open up a whole new can of worms are pretty much spot-on. I will not confirm the rumour that other people were actually involved here, but from open source data, two interesting points arise:
- what about the safety officer who wasn't at his post?
- what about the MO who approved sending a PES B man to a PES A course?
Just these two points alone should indicate that the coverage of the case was woefully inadequate, and I will leave it up to your individual judgement to work out if there were any more angles to this case that were conveniently left out.
For what it's worth, I can't make a reasonable argument that the two LTAs do not deserve their sentences. Note that this does not extend to saying that they do deserve those sentences. On the other hand, Pandiaraj and Balakrishnan were quite clearly scapegoated.
Someone asked why the case made it to civil court. There is an agreement between Mindef and the courts that if a case is of sufficient public interest, the case can be brought to civil court. In the media barrage, the Defence Minister said, "We will get to the bottom of this" publicly, creating the opening for said clause to be exercised.
