A FIVE-MEMBER team from the Alliance for Reform and Democracy Asia (Arda) said it had conducted its first study trip on Singapore's election system over the weekend.

The four-year-old, privately-funded organisation touched base with representatives from the Singapore Democratic Party, National Solidarity Party, the Open Singapore Centre and the Think Centre.

The study trip concluded yesterday with a public forum attended by some 40 people and observed by the Arda team. A report will be ready by end February or March, said team leader Dr Paul Scott.

Mr Martin Lee, a legislative council member from Hong Kong, held up the freedom of political demonstration in the Special Administrative Region in contrast to Singapore's laws on illegal assemblies.
