She is like that does not mean all young people are like that.Originally posted by Medicated Oil:Eunice is representing the young generation of Singapore.
She using her action to prove that:
"Money MORE important, who cares about politics ???"
That is voicing the opinion of the Young Singapore Generation for you.
She is setting the example.
If Eunice were to join opposition they would be more than happy and parade her around like a prize catch. Opposition now only left with old timers how to attract young voters ?Originally posted by Unsung_Hero:If she were put forward as a opposition candidate wouldn't her "credentials" be questioned, mocked, and she put down as just another "lousy" opposition candidate and another reason to keep the staus quo?
I find it ludricous that Singaporeans give the benefit of the doubt to any PAP candidate but never to an opposition one. In democratic socities it is precisely the shaking up of government every so often -- even for a weaker one -- that ultimately strengthens both parties and attracts better candidates -- a virtuous cycle. Parties that have never been elected are inherently weaker than those that have. Power corrupts and ultimate power corrupts ultimately; no party is immune to this.
The government's first objective -- and in this they have been singularly successful -- has been to limit the number, quality and strength of any opposition...this continues unabated.
It's remarkable what even a one-term opposition party would accomplish in shaking Singapore politics up and giving back a democratic semblance. Over a short term they could maintian the staus quo economic policies while opening up the books, providing complete accountability, and an "audit" of the true state of the nation. Imagine the civil service response to new task masters.

why then does she still want a singing career
ummm...no I think you wrong.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:She's human, she has dreams.
I think most people do not question her integrity or calibre, but most people question her state of mind. You represent common people & there will be expectations even though you just an NMP and mebbe you not very visible yet but it is expected you follow protocol and not suka suka do anything u like.Originally posted by blur_blur:give her a chance la ~ let us onli judge her when she complete her term.
Most ppl are very funny. They have a fixed mindset on certain things like if u wan to be a NMP,
1. u must be old preferably 35 +++
2. can only be successful in PROPER careers like doctors or CEOs.
Therefore if u are younger than 35 or maybe successful in other areas of lives. I am sorry you do not fit in the criteria.

Subject : Nominated MPs
Suggestion : There are nine nominated MPs and they have not contributed much to parliament.
If we do away the nine nominated MPs, government will save a lot money.

The purpose of the Nominated MP (NMP) scheme is to broaden Singapore's political system and makes for a better Parliament. The NMPs are politically non-partisan; they do not belong to any political party. They can therefore give voice in Parliament to dissenting views and views of the protest voters, those who are unhappy with the Government over certain policies but want the PAP to form the Government. Many such voters do not identify themselves with the Opposition even though they do not think that PAP MPs can speak out convincingly enough on their behalf. The scheme also caters to people who for legitimate reasons are not able to stand for election as MPs, but who can make valuable contributions in public policy debates. NMPs can fulfill a useful role in Parliament and it will not be in our national interest to do away with the scheme.
The NMPs are not paid an allowance but an honorarium of about $1,500 pm.
