creativity and survival - both cannot coexists

  Govt wants creativity, enterprenurship and blah blah blah
  to help the economy (again this is an all consuming passion cause it lines their pockets) and provide jobs for people esp the people who lost their jobs permanently (yes when people are employed they will not think of voting against the current party, so you see the casino idea is not really for any one's benefit except theirs). Yes creativity and entreprenurship creates live, jobs, money for everyone and we all need it.
  
  Yet on the other hand, people find the cost of living so high, that they had to work day and night to pay bills and more bills. Even for basic things like roof over the heads and food on the table. The govt artificially created an env that has high cost of living to make us all "hungry" enough to drive us to work ever harder and work more to generate more wealth for the country. Its like running on the treadmill at high speeds and all the joints are worn out and in pain. People are asking to stop or pause but the govt denies the request and thinks we are just complacent and lazy.
  
  However, because of the high cost of living and the need for surival, people really have no time to rest and dream up creative ideas. Because to be creative and entreprenurial, one has to take risks (ie Sim went to US to develop creative and became a success before heding back here). However, the risk and the cost of not succeeding is just so high that only those with nothing to loose can go take that chance. On top of that there is the small market that we have to deal with as well as external forces as well as the govt links organizatons that will make you flop.
  
  Scenario:
  Imagine having risk it on a business venture on some creative idea. Having pumped in all the time and effort and $ into this venture, the NTUC saw it, take the idea and duplicate it (they are govt and have deep pockets to make anything a success and you can't sue them), you find our business close down and you are left with nothing. Then you realise you cannot service your HDB loan. Would HDB repo the house and the banks repo your assets to pay for the loans and debts? Now, you can hardly put together enough to pay the bills/debts and have to declare bankrupt. When you go look for a job, when the employer find out you were a bankrupt, would they actually employ you? Then when you get a job, ever cent you make goes to paying debt..
  
  I don't think that its feasible to ever be creative in Singapore ... the govt is just interested to keep us under their thumb and fighting hungry for our daily survival to care. The only ones they care about the the younger people who they think will be making the $ for their pocket but the trends does not suggest that. Sometimes I watch these party members flap their lips on TV and hear the disjointed sounds. I dismiss most of it as lies. Besides I am beyond the age the govt cares about and soon becoming a burden to them.
  
  Maybe the govt will built an alcatrez like state of the art off shore prison system and keep all the old folks there and have weekly euthanization parties. Anyways, they are already doing that to stray cats and dogs...

  This place is going to the dogs.I bet you've seen better days in the past, where although the technology was not there, people were at least more honest to eac h other.

  Yeah.....I fully agree with you. Poor people are not any better than stray cats or dogs. Sometimes , they are treated even better than poor people!!!

  Honestly, it will take a long long long time for government to become creative. Why? Just look at the big picture which ministerrs or civil servants will be creative given so many benefits by being not creative.
  
  (1) Pay is so good - who wants to bear responsibility for mistakes.
  
  (2) Annual budget surplus is ultimate aim - results are not measured for spinning of monies to keep the economic wheeling going, wealth creation, number of jobs created or costs of living lowered.
  
  (3) Performance is affected by number of mistakes not successes. Ministers are setting the pace in demolition or debunking of ideas or arguments irrespective of creativity and OB markers remain planted in the political golf courses.
  
  (4) Value creation, investment potential, job creation or social cohesion are not the goals but surpluses.
  
  (5) Incentives to foreigners and foreign investments are normal and helping of citizens may give rise to queries by anti-corruption agencies.
  
  These are new governance and social values that need to be created in the system if there are to be creativity and entrepreneurship. Where are the leaders to lead in such total creative management.
