Perspective One: It's half day work, full day pay, still got 2 months holiday! Time very easy to pass one ... Work Plan for year 2005:
Jan - got hari raya haji,
Feb - CNY,
Mar - 1 week break, Good Friday
Apr - sibei cham, no break but nvm, got bonus,
May - Labour Day, Vesak, exam, do invigilation, walk here walk there macam security guard, zobo
Jun - HOLIDAY,
Jul - sibei cham again, no break but nvm, take bonus again,
Aug - National Day,
Sep - 1 week break,
Oct - exam, do invigilation, walk here walk there macam security guard, zobo
Nov - Deepavali, Hari Raya Puasa
Dec - HOLIDAY

Perspective Two: Wa sibei stressed ah, students so noisy, parents pressure, MOE pressure, better break bond find another job la ... work from 7am to 7pm, students never come sch or attend CCA must do telemarketing call them up, after school still gotta bring books home to mark, set test papers, get sponsors for school's events, walau bao shua bao hai ...

My Persepctive: Everyone has a role to play in education. From schools to parents, from friends to media. Some teachers are really just there for the money, some really work their asses off. Children being more difficult to teach is not just a national problem. IT IS A WORLD PROBLEM.
If any parent who feels that the teacher or the school is not good enough for their child, by all means, find another school. Govt schools are like HDB flats. It is subsidised and this is all our govt can give. If you don't like it, you can buy a condo or a plot of land and build your own house, that is, if you can afford to. Similarly, you can find another so called better school.
Please get this right. It is not the schools that forms the students, rather it's the students that form a good school.
JusticeLegal or LegalJustice, if every teacher can do a 100% percent job, do you think you would have a chance to be a tutor?

Correction to above...Teachers have no June and December holidays. They do not have mid term breaks as well. Teachers are the same as the rest of the civil service 14 days annual leave. The holidays are meant for students only.

Erm, MainBattleTankee, as far as MOE teachers are concerned, they have no annual leave days. They do follow the Jun & Dec holidays. They have 10 days of emergency leave days for purposes like ROM, HDB 1st Appt, that's what my teacher client told me when we went for HDB 1st Appt ...

Not really. During the so called December and June holidays, teachers have to go back to school to work. I believe they have at most two weeks of free time a year which is quite similar to the rest of the working force. On paper the holidays are followed... but as you know in actual fact...

What you think students are? Machines to churn out grades just to suit teachers' fragile egos? I see no love in teachers for students. Really the pay does not justify you all.

I am a teacher not tuition teacher..teaching in a local pri sch for 4 years..holidays? look nice on paper but all bull shit

Schools are imparting values all the time but why children end up bad ..... the root of the problem are the parents .......
parent are neglecting their children .... they work work work .. 2 work their arse off or many simply bochap, throwing the discipline to schools ..... and forget they have to teach discipline their children.
when they come in school, they bring along the wrong values their parents have taught them ..... so they think thei behaviour is right cos their parents behave tat way ...... and not forgetting parents who think they are kings and queens ...... always say they are right and the school wrong ! always say
these types of parents are the ones who need to come to school to be counsel and discipline instead ... taught some lessons instead ....... hahaha ......

Peers too have a bigger impact on the growth of a student as an individual. If your classmates and friends are bengs, there's a high chance that at least some of it will rub off (although this is just a generalisation- not all bengs are bad!)
This seems to have affected JusticeLegal quite badly, don't you think? Either she was deprived of her childhood or she spent her teens with friends who prefer the same sex. Maybe she spent her free time reading Germaine Greer. Maybe she had an Indian boyfriend who dumped her. Maybe she was given hell by her teachers for being an obnoxious wh0re.

Jus wanna make my 2 cents worth here. I am signing my letter of appointment tmr but none of these things mentioned in either the previous threads or this is going to stop me from doing so.
Ok here's some additional points to Justicelegal or LegalJustice which ever way it is... frankly being a tutor does not allow you to see what teachers are really going through, even as someone in the other thread told you to undergo relief teaching but still it is really different from wat real teachers are experiencing.
I been a tutor for more than 5 years now and i did relief at my former primary school for 3 mths after my JC too. Both are really a breeze to me... I knock off straight at 1pm after teaching and went orchard road while my former primary school teachers stay back for meetings, to mark book or just to prepare for the next day teaching material. Many times i asked my teachers why did they take up teaching in the first place and whether they regret doing so and if i should join teaching... the replies i got are nothing but positive
I would agree with what u say a few years back when i did once thought that teaching was a half day with high pay lotsa holiday job (although that was not the reason i took up teaching)...
but now... i can only say try not to jump into conclusion so quickly about something u have no completely no idea of. The world of teaching is not as rosy as u have thought.
