Changing Meaning of Being Chinese

I'm doing some research into the base value shift that is occurring between this generation of ethnic Chinese Asians and the previous generation. I'm looking for some help and some feedback.
Do you think that the base values of ethnic Chinese Asian are changing?
If so, how?
What values will be common among ethnic Chinese throughout Southeast and East Asia?
What differences exist?
Do you think that people are becoming more receptive to "all things Chinese", i.e. Chinese heritage, entertainment, language, and traditions?

Meaning of Being Chinese? i thought thats when both your parents are chinese?

Good and bad.
The good are in smaller measures - cultures, social and family values.
The bad are - moneyism, over-controlled by family ties, self-centredness.
Language is learned by rote character by character discouraging logical deduction and hampering pursuit of science and technology and knowledge.
The few who overcome such constraints are able to view the world in larger perpective and enjoy the best of both east and west and excel.

I don't think it's the base values that are changing. It's the people who change. For example, one of the base values of Chinese has always been filial piety. However, in recent years, there is an increasingly amount of Chinese who "abandon" their parents...I think Chinese in all parts of Asia want to become more "Americanized", they no longer want to stick to the base values anymore. The changes are such that the younger generation of Chinese don't really believe in these values anymore, as opposed to the older generation, who still follow these values rigorously.

Cultures adapt over time.That's the only reality in the world.

Now, I'm wondering, how can I go about determining what the new culture is? What values are most important? and why have the values changed, if they have?
