Not everyone is like our mm who sit in office and read email or play golf.
I see all those old grannies and grandfathers sorking manual labour, cleaning toilets, clearing tables, sweeping floors... breaks my heart ...

I know that it might very well be my future to wash some toilet or sweep the roads when I am too old to be "employed" and yet too young to retire based on the national standards

actually its quite sad
few years ago, the senior citizens enjoy their retirement, chatting with neighbours at void decks, and doing stuff they like
now, its like i see them still working as cleaners and doing other manual jobs
big hoo ha on tv about how much the government or community do help them, but its not enough
and, the younger ones and fresh grads are struggling to find jobs.... -
but don't you feel there is something so wrong about the whole picture...

Personally, I think the 'cramming' problem is sort of like a conflict between the various 'objectives' in our government's management system. It's not just economical but also political issues to be concerned with...
As for the slow growth rate, it's just a social problem largely created by our own government's policies.. Trying to 'reverse' the effect now, especially by 'tricking' the people ain't working miracles like they used to anymore...
It's only natural to think that when a population is not adapting well to the changes made and to the environment they're exposed to, they'll just cease their own existence.... -

then other reasons start to crush the human spirit, goverment policies, cramp human space, stress culture,

I also suspect a fundamental fault with the idea of 'economy'. Like.. It should be coupled with more of some other things... By itself is driving TOO HARD. Already getting way out of control. Anyway, other global 'problems' also about kicks in at around the same time.
Whether you would like to call it 'judgement day', 'end of the world' or whatever... Such things are more or less 'predictable' by theory.... -

economy =/= money alone
when one study economy as a uni module, or when economists make decisions, they consider many other factors..
one thing, which economists understand, is that everything revolves around another..the economy isnt just a bare money making mechanism... -

With regards to the gahmen wanting to keep the population growing, well, they want to ensure that lots of people contribute to CPF as well as a large enough cheap labour force that can be exploited by employers, so as to make Singapore an attractive place for foreign companies to set up shop.
I think the overcrowding is one of the reasons why people are reluctant or refuse to have children. Sort of like the lab rat effect, where rats kept in crowded conditions is research facilities do not reproduce. The gahmen fights the lab rat effect by importing new rats from China, India and other countries.
I fear that the social fabric will be torn apart by the culmulative effect of these policies within our lifetimes.
P.S. I do fantasize throwing the entire public transport council into the path of an MRT train or bus everyday while commuting to work. -
