P2 nia so much tution. so kiasu for wat.Originally posted by ORIGAMIST:Thought of that last year.. But we move here just because of my son study lor... How to just change school like that? The principle is of no help at all lor.. Always say to help change but the teachers attitude is one Hell of a Kind...
Supposed when he is bigger, ( now P2 ) only, may consider change....
No suprise considering that the eudcation system here seems to be one of elimination rather than education. To survive the cuts and move to the next round(e.g. Sec sch, jc, uni etc), our kids have to become competitive and many are taught to avoid helping their weaker classmates for that very reason. The rat race in Singapore begins at Primary 1.Originally posted by mistyblue:good luck!
Whatever it is, its most important to have your kid grow up to be a good person with strong values and thinking...
Most schools have failed badly in this aspect...
What to do? His Chinese so bad and the stupid teacher always scold for his poor Chinese. Actually, we are at fault becaue at home we don't speak Chinese mah... Then when he asked us about Chinese, no one can help ... So must Tution or not, you say lah... Not cheap you know...Originally posted by crazy monkey:P2 nia so much tution. so kiasu for wat.![]()

My family also don't speak Mandarin at home. Started my kids on Chinese tuition from young. It makes a difference to start them early. Expose them to Chinese programmes & pop songs. Get them to attend group tuition in lang sch. with Beijing teachers, it abt $100 p/mth. don't stress them & they will produce results.Originally posted by ORIGAMIST:What to do? Get the class teacher's hp & email address. Some schs. are very good. They will give a letter to inform parents when the kids have to stay back for remedial. If the teacher cancels too often, then u should give her a call.Originally posted by ORIGAMIST:My son in Yio Chu Kang PRimary. One day, told to go back for remedial but the day and time clashes with outside tuition. Happy tot school responsible. So cancel outside tution to cater to school schdule. Then school cannot comfirm when to start. So let son to outside tuition again. Suddenly say start on the next day.
Again, cancelled the tuition and go to school, only to find out the teacher didn't turn up for remedial. Again, my son missed his tuition class outside. The tuition supposed to follow school syllebus but not all hay wire .....![]()
As mentioned in my post, the teacher had screw-up my tution plan for my kids. Now the tution side have been cancelled.... no more vacancies, in the mean time, the remedial is off indefinately. Before, the start of the remedial, already got problem. Spoke to the VP and had heated arguement. It seem we owe them a living.... My experience with the school is, you even go personally and leave message, they never call back. When you confront them with it, they can give all kind of excuses. They thought we are all primary school students.... The excuses is damn very lame .... Anyway, your suggestion is worth considering. Got to check with my wife and seek her opionion too... Thanks ....Originally posted by gerrykoh:Get the class teacher's hp & email address. Some schs. are very good. They will give a letter to inform parents when the kids have to stay back for remedial. Check whether the remedials are effective before signing for tuition.
Don't give tuition on every subjs. only the weaker ones cos u don't want to overload your kid. They also need time to relax.
As to changing to better sch., best time is after P.3 streaming cos there will be vacancies after the gifted prog. Talk to principal of the sch. u like.
wah lau pri sch only leh. i still remember my pri is like normal lessons only den no need study one.Originally posted by commonsense:my daughter is in pri 5 studying in a neighbourhood school. nowadays her english teacher conducts remedial classes at 9 am, my daughter studies in the afternoon session, and then her higher chinese teacher conducts remedial classes at 7.45pm till 9 pm. when my daughter comes back home, she has to complete piles of homework before sleeping at around midnight. and remedial class again the next day. i don't envy her. but nothing i, as a parent, can do to stop this nonsense, cos from what i know, the other kiasu parents were pretty supportive of it. and by the way, not all classes got night lessons though. only the best two classes of her cohort. i hope this is not their way of making the better students 'elite'. i rather my daughter is enjoying a less stressful childhood.
oh, another neighbourhood school nearby also has night classes. so i wonder what's up with that.
