But unfortunately the eligibility criteria for presidential candidates is so stringent that the candidate must have been some minister or very senior civil servant to even qualify to run.
So it's inevitable that the president would be a "govt man".
Without the brand of leadership the PAP espouses, Singapore is finished. The entire government system is structured to ensure the longevity of the PAP government and we are all the better because of it. Just imagine where would Singapore be today if not for the PAP.Originally posted by suntze:Originally posted by Rusesabagina
Don't you see the ploy is to ensure that even shd a non-PAP gov gets into power, there is still a PAP man to guard the goalpost?
However, this may not be fool-proof. If these wise guys are able to get rid of PAP, they'll come up with devious ways to get around this "problem".![]()

I'm not saying the PAP is perfect. But there sure as hell is no other political party that comes close to having the collective wisdom and abilities of the PAP. The PAP is a giant talent-gathering machine. All the best political minds end up there by design and by choice. So stop complaining and start being a little more grateful you're living in a PAP-ruled Singapore.
Uh, no offence, i can't help but wonder... do u happen to be a member of the PAP Youth Wing?Originally posted by patriot:Without the brand of leadership the PAP espouses, Singapore is finished. What manifesto? To me it is nothing more than right-wing anti-liberal ideas.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Uh, no offence, i can't help but wonder... do u happen to be a member of the PAP Youth Wing?
Cos this sure as hell looks like something from the Party's manifesto.
Nope, I'm not in any way affiliated to Young PAP. I'm just a very grateful 22 year old Singaporean.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Uh, no offence, i can't help but wonder... do u happen to be a member of the PAP Youth Wing?

I doubt the ruling party would allow a president to be such a powerful stakeholder in the government as a mediator between Singapore and Malaysia, Malay or otherwise. That would give him too much de facto influence in government. Unless the president himself were a true blue party man of course.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:Definitely an indian/malay/eurasian , because PAP likes to showcase itself as a multi-racial country to "wayang" to our neighbours.
Our 1st president was honoured because he played a part in defending singapore, psychologically , UMNO in malaysia was pleased because they saw
Mr Ishak as one of their brothers in same race and religion.
If we have another malay president , most likely we won't have any "disputes" for another few more years. You can be sure of that .
It looks like him alright.Originally posted by Lowclassman:Don't wild guess!!!
I bet with you guys! The next president might be Dr Tony Tan. Pay and pay have already had him on mind.
Ass you!!! Why can't we complain??? Pap so great meh!!! A tiny singapore, if they cannot manage I will tell them to go and die!!! Whether singapore is finished or not; you will be yourself, me will still myself. You mean our great grandfathers, grandfathers and father only know how to fu.ck and produce you and me today??? No contributions to singapore???Originally posted by patriot:Without the brand of leadership the PAP espouses, Singapore is finished.
