There's a game to balance the budget i think.Originally posted by dibilo:(C) Allow NS man to go for part time-studying courses related to real life work
erm NS man like me already can study whatever course they like. full time ,part time, quarter time .. no one cares
(D) All Government agencies would be forbidden to make profits , inc. HDB,
Singpower
then who would want to work there? who would want to maintain the place? who would even want to open a power plant in the 1st place knowing they will reap 0 profit??
I agree on this one definitely , we need more educated singaporeans.Originally posted by thoreldan:make local university fee real cheap and affordable for the poor
The pay for public servants are alright , the beggars on china-town deserves alot of AID , I have always seen govenrment agencies donating money to the needy , but hardly ever the ministers donating themselves other then in NKF charity shows except when the camera is focusing on them. =)Originally posted by stupidissmart:it is easy to spend money but difficult to earn money. Thinking about spending money, I can say built a multi-billion theme park, give each singaporean a million dollars to spend, no tax from citizen, free healthcare, increase the pay of public servant like police and army etc. But then how r u going to balance the budget ?
More educated and worldly Singaporeans.Less nannies chasing after us.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:I agree on this one definitely , we need more educated singaporeans.
We need a thinking population rather then to have a Straits Times which gives headlines like..
"Singaporeans are happy"
"Majority of Singaporeans are satisfied with ******* policy"
I don't need any crap , and even though they state how many people they surveyed and what survey they did.
It can never reflect the views of all singaporeans.
ur proposal sounds good....Originally posted by av98m:1. Reduce the pay for MPs, Cabinet Ministers, PM and above to be more in line with their foreign counterparts.
2. Abolish the pension scheme for them as well.
3. Abolish the posts of SM and MM.
4. Dump the NMP scheme.
5. PM only allowed to serve a maximim of 2 terms (2 x 5 years)
6. Opposition MPs will be allowed full control over their constituencies and not have to be subjected to ridiculous restrictions like applying for permits to hold dinners for their own constituents. They will also have full control over grassroots activities in their constituencies.
7. Illegal re-drawing of electorial boundaries just before General Elections to be stopped.
8. Singaporeans will be allowed to use their CPF for further education without any strings attached.
9. The President to be given more executive powers, including the right of veto. Also to be limited to 2 terms maximum.
10. Restructure the NTUC and turn it into a real union, and clamp down on its business ventures threatening small businesses in Singapore.
11. Keep the perfomance bonus scheme for civil servants(but remove the cap on the maximum no. of months they can receive) but abolish the annual bonus. From now onwards, the amount of bonus each civil servant gets will be directly linked to their individual performances. Allow more autonomy with regards to hiring and firing. This will get rid of a lot of deadwood.
12. Abolish all restrictions on singles with regards to buying HDB flats, new or used. Also abolish the dempgraphic profiling.
13. Get rid of the quota system that exists for enrollment to local universities. (e.g. controls over the no. of male and female doctors, lawyers etc)
14. For things like ESS, NFS etc, remove the stupid rule that states you must contribute $50 to your CPF account (for those poor people who have not been contributing regularly) in order to receive the shares. These group of people are the ones who need the shares the most. If you're giving out money, give it with no strings attached! Truly one of the most horrendously stupid ideas ever to come out of the ruling party.
Well, thats just for starters.
with the exception of smaplion's suggestions, i agree with everyone elses, except for this, i think we should scrap the post of president, it seems useless to meOriginally posted by av98m:9. The President to be given more executive powers, including the right of veto. Also to be limited to 2 terms maximum.
Oh really? Then do u think this type of government can last long?Do u want to get cursed by the whole nation even after u died?......For me,i wouldnt want that.Originally posted by aryan:if i were the govt, i would do wad the govt is doing now. so i can maintain the control, power n benefit of the govt.
You have a point there.....But then again, our government during Lou Goh's times want to make profits in every single government department. And this Lou Goh has turn himself into a "businessman" instead of a "politician".What is the difference between a businessman n a politician?A businessman must make sure his companies make profit so that he could benefit from it n could answer to those shareholders as well as paid off to his employees.Whereas a politician cannot do that.Becoz some of the department in government sector are non-profitable.For example defense sector n healthcare related sector. But Lou Goh want everything to be profitable! The result?Simple, the cost of every god damn thing rise like rocket!!![]Originally posted by dibilo:(C) Allow NS man to go for part time-studying courses related to real life work

Bravo!!!Originally posted by timothytsgsg:1. Remove the temasek Holdings frm it's various monopolies
2. Auction away MediaCorp and its radio division, break up their TV monopoly, and a full audit of their staff and of its accounts. Their govt entity will be removed completely- meaning it will no longer enjoy any special privilges
3. Starhub's monopoly status of the cable TV industry will also be removed. Now foreign and local cable TV companies will be able to compete in the local cable TV industry for customers. End effect: lower costs and more choices for consumers.
4. SPH's monopoly of the press will be removed and it's govt entity will be revoked forever. Some of their holdings will also be up for audition and their accounts, staff and various other depts will be held for auditing to see which parts are still viable and which are not.
5. Reform the ISA laws so that it will not be open to abuse by politicans anymore. No more shall the ISA be used to jail so-called political opponents and instead a case by case basis shall be consider to see if the people held under the newly reformed ISA needs a lawyer and the normal rights that any normal criminals have or not.
6. Defamation suits will have a cap on the amt of damages a person can sue and it specifically applies to the political lawsuits.
7. Sack Ho Ching from her current position. She doesn't deserve to be head of Temasek Holdings at all. Off she goes and I wun be shedding tears at all.
8. Dissolve GIC and shift whatever roles that they used to do back to Finance ministry and MAS. Some of the various assets that they hold overseas will face another huge audit and those found to be unprofitable will be sold off without any questions.
9. Increase taxes for rich people and give tax cuts to the middle class and lower income classes so as to spur more spending by the middle class & lower income families on everyday goods- which means the economy will benefit.
10. Reform the CPF system- it needs that and more.
11. No longer claim that a HDB flat is always an asset- especially if it was bought based on bank loans or the CPF. Because if the loan hasn't been paid, then the HDB flat is no longer an asset but a liability. Upgrading, as a program will also be reviewed as a whole.
12. With a new private sector, no longer dominated by Temasek Holdings, foreign companies will be further encouraged to come back and re-build their assets in Singapore. Lower taxes will be given to those who come back and generally a new corporate culture will be encouraged so that creative people will be encouraged to come back.
13. Civil servants, as a whole, will face a review and another audit. And the system will be reformed to reduce red tape and inefficiency as well. Any civil servant found to be lazying around and not doing anything will be liable to face the sack in the quickest time possible.
14. S'pore will join and sign the Human Rights convention, which affirms that S'pore will respect the individual human rights that is given to the people of Singapore and as such, the state will not be able, under law to violate any S'porean- even if he has committed a crime and is currently jailed.
15. Foreign policy will not be touched totally but a new approach is certainly needed.
16. With a free press, media and other as such, Parliament will pass an anti-monopolistic law which will ensure that no company will dominate an industry till the point it dictates the policy without any consideration for the ordinary consumer. if a company does that, or attempts to, lawsuits by its competitors will be ready to challenge that said company. In addition, any other existing GLCs which survive the culling, will not be given any special rights by the govt whatsoever. From now on, they will be very much on their own.
17. Make it manatory to have a salary cap on how much a minister, a prime minister, a Member of Parliament and a civil servant can draw per month. Bonus schemes will also be reviewed and revised. And there will be no special and useless positions created for anyone anymore. This means the post of Senior Minister and Minister Mentor will be dissolved and no longer be able to be re-created forever.
18. Also newspapers, TV and magazines will be allowed to print pretty much what they want- except for perhaps hardcore pornography, racial hatrad etc without any fear of defamation or whatever else similar to that.
19. And also, from that point, no one who is related to any politician will be able to become Temasek Holding's CEO and President. It will be a rule that only people from the private sector will be suitable enough to apply for that job.
20. Finally, a new policy direction when it comes to sports in S'pore, NS and also other various related manners.
