Does Speaker deserve high salary?

In parliament sittings,the speaker just calls MPs to speak and stop MPs from speaking when their times are up.Yes,he also has to listen to what members are apeaking but doesn't particpate in the discussions.Simple job,isn't it?
I call on the PM to reduce the salary of speaker to save money for the tax payers. -
Other than his appointment, the Speaker is just another backbencher.

For that matter, I think the salaries of all the ministers, SM, MM and President should be reduced and bench marked agst their peers in US, the world No 1 economy.

The hierachical salary remuneration system appears to be outdated where the more senior is paid more for mundance works but who happens to bigger title.
It is time to learn from the private sector that a managing director or boss may be higher than the rest of the staff but they may not perform substantial duties or necessarily shoulder higher responsibilities.
This change from outdated past practice may help tax payers in bringing down costs and solve their high transportation and medical costs sooner. Think out of the box - as the ministers have been asking people.

You can't compare our government with the US one... Geographically, singapore is located in the middle of West and East. For convenient sake, businessmen made our singapore as a trading place and transitional access or a break for refeshment and replendished of food and water, fuel for their ships and crews; thus we benefited from here. As a businessman, I will set up factories or office to my convenient inorder to travel shorter distance from east to west and vice vesa. Hence, we are benefited by the creation of the nature. Not our freaking government!!! I don't believe our government can do better if they were to rule malaysia or Indonesia!!! A tiny island, if the gov can't manage it. I will tell them to go and die!
How efficient is our government compare to USA.....??? Are the USA gov or ministers doing lesser workload as compare to singapore gov ??? If you can't give good answers. I will call you nuts!!! Freaking government only concern for own pockets!!! -

They have the best of both world, drawing salaries comparable to top executives in private companies and do not have to take any responsibilities for failures.
Giving the reason that high salary will reduce corruption is like saying your guys are not trustworthy.
Imagine making a mistake that cost your company millions of dollars. Will your shareholders allow you to walk away just by admitting that it's a "honest" mistake?
If our government is really operated like a private company, many heads would have rolled. Would xxx still be acting yaya when he made a mistake in Suzhou Industrial Park knowing that he will be fired? -

(1) One Man One Vote,
(2) Protection of citizen against wrongful prosecution.
(3) Basic rights of citizens spelt out and enshrined in constitution.
(4) Rule of law, fairness and equity, non-interferences with election or constitutional rights of citizens.
(5) Investigation of constitutional infringements by independent sub-court open to observers from UN agencies.
(6) Independent Investigation of reported conflict of interests
(7) Non prosecution of political opponents. -

So by right, S'pore govt has it easy. S"pore is 100 times smaller in terms of size & population- by right they shd be more efficient. But by practise, S'pore govt's efficiency is as long as the American federal govt's.
And get this: we are paying them big salaries- the pap mps & ministers earn more than 1m dollars each- especially if u count the fact that many mps work in GLC companies as a board director or CEO. -

Are you kidding me? They are having problems with social security policies, health costs and education. They keep spending taxpayer's money on the military equipment and to finance the Iraq war even with the huge balance deficit. The Bush government doesn't seem to want to keep the Church and the State seperate. Even recently, they overstepped their power of authority to intervene in the judicial process in the Schiavo case. They even begin to call these judges as "activists". Decisions made by the congress is slow.
