It is not surprising. This is human nature at its most natural state-selfish. if you read "the s'pore story". MM lee did not consider Suharto "a crook" for giving his children almost monopolistic control of the economy. the only criticism he made was that the extent was too "excessive". which means that the handing out of privileges is ok as long as it did not become "excessive", but who is going to define excessive?
the fact that all these appointments were given despite all the claims of meritocracy, plus the statement SM Goh made to justify Ho ching's appt that " this is an exceptional family" suggests that on top of the system of meritocracy, another system exists for another category of pple in s'pore. royalty perhaps. and the fact that we are expected to believe in the infallibility of the family suggests that we are taken for fools. that explains the assumption that the economy of the country better be left in the hands of the exceptionals and the foreign talents, locals too stupid. -

because they are relative of Lee family there why they are often invited to the board of directors. what the hell need a Col (Dr) to be wildlife blar blar back sheep. i think most are not so competent. just that they are associated with lee family?

How does the government prosecute a company director in the private sector for non-declaration of his interest in contract for another company he has an interest in when senior government officers and civil servants are working in or sitting on the boards of private companies.
Did these roving civil servants or officers declare that the are employed or sitting as directors of government departments or GLCs participating in tendering for works or projects in those private companies or GLCs they are serving as directors or working in senior positions. Surely government cannot say that there is no conflicts of interests in biddings for works and projects in such a situation. -

Most ppl who want to be successful in their careers tend to prefer dissociation with the Lee Familiy.
Not that it's negative or anything but investors tend to think that any association whatsoever would be deemed from private money-making businesses to national interest and hence gahmen related.
Thus my take is that for the various companies listed, most of the capable ones tend to realise that as long as a member of the Lee family is their rival, it's a dead end.
So they leave to seek opportunities elsewhere.
And guess who eventually becomes top dog?.....
So yes it is meritocracy. -
