I think he is wasting time cos so far no intl orgns have come to our "rescue".Originally posted by LazerLordz:Well, he seems to be more concerned with promoting democracy around Asia than in Singapore.Audiences will only listen if you have a good track record. But if he gets our grievances heard by real international organisations, then he might be doing something useful. If not, he's just wasting time.
In Singapore he can get arrested for speaking without applying for a public entertainment license what, and even if he apply police also almost never approve. How? Someone ironic that Dr Chee's NS rank is ASP in the police force!(He reached that rank before he got into opposition politics)Originally posted by LazerLordz:Well, he seems to be more concerned with promoting democracy around Asia than in Singapore.Audiences will only listen if you have a good track record. But if he gets our grievances heard by real international organisations, then he might be doing something useful. If not, he's just wasting time.

Even if an opposition MP wants to hold a rally in his constituency, he needs a permit. On the other hand, the PAP candidate has a free hand even though he is not the rightful MP there. why waste time on CSJ movie ? JBJ movie would be betterOriginally posted by LazerLordz:Let's face it, if "15" was canned, what chance does this fellow have? He'd be better off screening it at Sundance or Cannes film festival, then be portrayed by the govt as a visionary of Singapore, then the spin doctors will then portray his movie about CSJ as a symbol that the MIW are loosening up.
A few years down the road, another guy takes up the same gauntlet and the whole cycle repeats itself.

He even had the cheek to claim that Liang Po Po movie was a topic that was a bit 'taboo'!
For your info, Daniel Yun is the current MediaCorp CEO and that LPP movie is also very much a very rubbish movie too- and in no way was it a taboo movie.
Yup, that's wat he claimed. Such typical denials by our civil servants.Originally posted by crazy monkey:LPP a taboo movie ?
Oh drats - the disease of idiocy has made its way to Mediacorp as well.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:You shd have seen Daniel Yun's interview with CNBC about S'pore censorship laws today. Fake, false smilies from him- so much so I couldn't believe a word he had said and he also made me cring.

Singapore is King of double standards. If Chin Peng's memoirs even became a movie, I doubt it would get clearance. Yet those glorifying the extreme right get the OK sign.Originally posted by fudgester:Oh drats - the disease of idiocy has made its way to Mediacorp as well.
If Liang Po Po was taboo because it dealt with gangsterism, then The Godfather is also taboo since it deals with the Mafia.
Then Daredevil and Punisher are also taboo since they deal with vigilante justice.
Then The Sum of All Fears is taboo since it deals with neo-Nazism.
Oh no! The Incredibles is also taboo! It deals with terrorism!
I could go on - but you guys get the point.
Singapore - 'The Center for the Arts'? That's sounding more and more like some sick joke to which I'm not laughing.

If a movie on Chin Peng is ever made, which angle do you think it would cover? Would it look at his own personal struggles or diss him as an inhuman creature?Originally posted by crazy monkey:Memoirs of Chin Peng are on sale at popular bookstore![]()
Martyn See might be a SDP member! Check out the link here:Originally posted by raihanraihan:Is it worthwhile making a film on Chee Soon Juan? He is such a sneaky fellow. Forever flying here and there attending seminars and forums and seems doesn't need to work. Wonder where he finds the money to support his wife and 2 young children.
He is also more interested in building his relationship with outsiders than with Singaporeans. How he expects us to support him when he couldn't be bothered with us?
I think a film on all the opposition leaders will be a more worthwhile film than one on Chee alone.
oic. i've been wondering who would want to do a film on Chee Soon Juan. now the truth is out!Originally posted by lotus999:Martyn See might be a SDP member! Check out the link here:

Singapore politics like that one lor. Nothing much can be done. Censorhip has got it's usefulness. But aiya, Sometimes you know, censorhip means or connotes a meaning that leadership has failed. Yar lor. So... erm... hehe. Hint Hint.
If pap is daring enuf, they should screen the movie and defend themselves or something. Anyway, what do they take singaporeans for???? Idiots who go over to the opposition cuz of a film??? MY GOODNESS! Aiya.. anyway pap's actions now were influenced by singapore's history... so they being so worried taht opposition win also understandable one lar....
Start a new classification called PI - Politically Insensitive Rating.Originally posted by av98m:I think they might as well be honest and change the restriction to say that political films that do not paint a rosy picture of the ruling party are to be banned. I mean, we see documentaries and shows all the time on TV about the ruling party, harry lee, etc etc etc. Are those not political programmes?
There are times I wonder how stupid does the ruling party think the average singaporean is.
Yeah, when they are featured at Cannes, then Harry and Co will beg them to return.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:CSJ doesn't have PR skills. He isn't media-suave and therefore when he speaks, he often comes out too hasty, too rushed and therefore can be easily painted as a person who's rude, uncouth and disrespectful. Especially when the press is govt controlled.
CSJ has written some good articles before- on the SDP website and other pro-opposition websites as well. He has the gift of writing stuff but simply when it comes to dealing with the press, he needs someone who's more able to handle the media.
He just cannot handle the media at all.
As for the banning of a film regarding CSJ- it only shows how much lip service the PAP is committed to paying to the overall 'creativity' of the film festival and ordinary S'poreans. With so many rules, no wonder prospective s'porean film directors either rather study something they dislike or they make their films overseas and study film overseas in an open environment.
