It always seems right for others to burn our flag , but wrong for us to burn other pple flag.

well said, well said!Originally posted by bumbleb:I think that it would be proper to take a few things into context when looking at Indo-Sing relations.
During Habibie's presidency, the first conflict occured when SM/MM Lee mentioned in a interview that he believe along the lines that Habibie would not last long. When Singapore offered aid to Indonesia then, Teo Chee Hearn delivered the supplies to GEN Wiranto, and not Habibie the president. To Habibie, it was a grave insult, and it was following this that he uttered his little red dot comments.
Looking at the current protests about 'toxic' waste, it seems to me that the protesters hardly represented the Indonesian masses. Far from Indonesians as a whole being ungrateful - it is far more likely that the demonstrators were hired by specific interest groups who wanted to sow discord.
How would the average Indonesian know about the contents of various passing vessels? How would the average Indonesian know about the Basel Convention? And the fact that the police was conspiciously absent hints at the whole event being staged.
Given the precarious position of SBY now, it might be premature to conclude that he was the one to sanction the event. Given Singapore's various anti terrorism drives, including the provision of evidence against the JI preacher Abu Bashir it is hardly shocking that there are factions in Indonesia that have little love for Singapore.

Here's my opinion:
I believe we all singaporeans should stand side by side and stay true to our values , even if other taiwanese, indonesians or philipinos try to burn our flag , we should stand still.
I myself couldn't believe the fact that , we gave $22 million during 1998 to help out the crisis and humanitarian missions and we get called "little red dot" and Habibie called us insensitive friend..just one of the company did a waste throw around indonesian waters and we get a bad protest a bare 4 months after the tsunami?
Singaporeans are so well-behaved and we have never protested outside their embassies , I think anyone would rise from their grave like what LKY have mentioned , if anything like this happens in this future.
I have particularly noted down my emotions and toned down what i am especially trying to say.
Yes, Singaporeans are too tame. But don't you think that if our neighbour appeared to have planned an offensive, we shouldn't be falling into it's trap? They are prepared and we're not. Our people in that country will be in danger!
hey small boi, the protest is in Jarkarta. Are there any protest in Medan ?Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:By Christopher Teo kian lam..Under the forum..
