Fair increase again?

Straits Times reported that transport operators are likely to apply for fare rises.

SMRT and SBS transit MUST increase their profit every year so that they can pay the board directors (MPs) handsomely so as to prevent Corruption.
So, as MM Lee have stated, if the Singapore Citizens want a Corruption-free singapore, the MINISTERS MUST BE PAID WELL.
The Malaysia have a dig at the Singapore ministers as they have said that the Malaysia ministers dun need to be paid well as they are governed by integrity.
Please understand the New Fare Calculation Formula was IMPLEMENTED after the Economy "RECOVERED".
So, the SBS and SMRT have the RIGHT to increase their fares according to the Fare Calculation Formula.
When it is PRINTED on the FRONT PAGE of the ST, it is CONFIRMED that the increase is ON !!!! -
fair increase even though they made record earnings last year. worst thing is unemployment rose to 3.9%.

I think a fare increase is unjustified, because, although fuel costs have risen since the last increase, profits are still very healthy. Fare increases should be tied to the transport companies' profits, and the current state of the economy and unemployment level, and hence rising costs should not be a justification. Instead of blaming rising fuel costs, the transport companies should look at ways to cut costs in other areas, in which they seem to have done well, looking at the profits.
Besides, I'm only a poor NSF using the standard adult EZ-link card. Booking in to camp already costs me almost $3. A fare increase would be quite intolerable. -

If those two companies can keep on applying for fare increases and get them all the time, then I am sure that they are competing with each other — in fact falling over each other to raise fares in a bid to maintain their profits.
There is no other sectors that I can see which increase prices for the more years the service is available: our mobile service sector is seeing decreasing subscription fees, and we have 3 operators with duplicate coverage!
There MUST be some incompetency or waste in which the two public transport companies are managed to justify so many an increases! -

not many ppl can afford to buy shares and these are the ones most affected by any fare hike. -
I suspect this is a ploy for your govt to play the good guy in anticipation of the coming general elections.
