So is conjecture and thousands of philosophical discussions and coffeeshop talk?Wanna sue the pants over half the population for saying things that you know inside are true?Originally posted by dragg:if you say something about someone without proof it is defamation. defamation is against the law!!!
that is exactly my point - allegations!! why say something when you have no proof?Originally posted by LazerLordz:So is conjecture and thousands of philosophical discussions and coffeeshop talk?Wanna sue the pants over half the population for saying things that you know inside are true?
please lah. what has this got to do with what we are discussing now? coffeeshop talk involves only a few people blog involves the mass media. understand the difference between 'you think it is true' and 'it is true'!!
The idea of defamation as allegations without proof has been misused here because simply put, information about allegations are locked away and the common man can never find a confirmation piece of info to back up what he knows is the truth and has observed. Thus a tyranny by legalism builds up and it is one heck of a shameful thing for our nation.

if you say something about someone without proof it is defamation. defamation is against the law!!!
Conversely, how does it feel to be called irresponsible? Should you be sued for saying that someone is irresponsible? Should i be sued for saying that you have called someone irresponsible?Originally posted by dragg:how does it feel to be called an idiot for nothing? moreover he is someone reputable.
Technically, Defamation is the publishing of false statements of fact whcih tend to lower a persons reputation in the eyes of the reasonable person.Originally posted by dragg:if you say something about someone without proof it is defamation. defamation is against the law!!!
So we should all just shut up? Is that what you are trying to say?So, by default we cannot comment on the public performance of officials and only their own people may do so?Originally posted by dragg:that is exactly my point - allegations!! why say something when you have no proof?
come up with something more credible in your argument. i am sure you can do better than this.Originally posted by Tuatau:One has heard many taxi drivers calling the Singapore government greedy pigs, but has not yet heard of any taxi driver being forced to make public apology in Hong Lim Square.
did i say all of you should shut up? why jump to such conclusion? if you want to discuss, say something credible!! what Stasi agent?Originally posted by LazerLordz:So we should all just shut up? Pray tell whether you are a Stasi agent? You sure amazingly close to one.![]()
we are going nowhere arguing about technicalities. it has got nothing to do with what we are saying to each other now. bloggers who pass negative comments do it for a reason. the one involved sued for a reason. see it from the perspective of both parties and you will get a clearer picture!!Originally posted by lwflee:Conversely, how does it feel to be called irresponsible? That is the problem that arises when free speech is stamped upon.
Right and you plead ignorance over your post that if one only has allegations to offer, he or she should just shut up.Originally posted by dragg:did i say all of you should shut up? why jump to such conclusion? if you want to discuss, say something credible!! what Stasi agent?
grow up!!!
Still, I don't think Philip Yeo will get anywhere if both parties were UK citizens. Yes, both have their reasons for their actions. However, Singapore is a right-wing nation while its former colonial master is left-of-centre.Originally posted by dragg:we are going nowhere arguing about technicalities. it has got nothing to do with what we are saying to each other now. bloggers who pass negative comments do it for a reason. the one involved sued for a reason. see it from the perspective of both parties and you will get a clearer picture!!

you are reading in between the lines!!! what i meant to say is 'say something only when you have proof', not ask people to shut up. you are just being skeptical. if you have problems in understanding i suggest you stay out of threads that require intellect!!Originally posted by LazerLordz:Right and you plead ignorance over your post that if one only has allegations to offer, he or she should just shut up.
Please don't dabble in the intricacies of political surveillance and methodology, and its impact on a society if you have never heard of the East German Secret Police aka Stasi.Read up on them..then you will know why I said that.
Cheers
i feel that his intention is just to deter, not really out to sue them.Originally posted by iveco:Still, I don't think Philip Yeo will get anywhere if both parties were UK citizens. and your point on stasi is totally uncalled for. should i counter by saying you are here to incite trouble then.
yeah. just differing opinions. but please dont jump to conclusion and resort to name calling. i have experienced this at the japanese/china thread and things really ended up very bad. it is just not worth the trouble!!!Originally posted by LazerLordz:To each his own then.
