The whole meritocracy scheme as was implemented over the past 39 years can only help to produce certain manpower needed for the public administration sector.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:If there was a better economic board which re-distributed the profit better to the people, instead of almost 99% to govt. coffers, then people wouldn't be struggling right now to make ends meet- just to survive.
My cousin, a poly graduate in IT, now only earns S$900(after CPF) at HP/Compaq. Even a mere full time waiter earns more money than that.
The fact remains that while the govt. should monitor economic trade, economic links and other stuff related to it(such as passing laws to make it much more fair), it shouldn't control it completely, 100%. Because eventually politicians by themselves are greedy by nature. If you give them a few dollars more, they eventually want more of it. And they continously will want more and more every year.
It's a vicious cycle. Otherwise why do we have so many civil servants, who are being paid thousands every month for doing nothing, so many committees- which most of it are useless and pointless, and MPs and PAP ministers being paid millions of dollars when they have proven they are a bunch of useless crap idiots?
I mean South Korea, 8 years after the economic crisis in '97, has boomed since the early 2000s. SK private companies, after going through a series of tough reforms have become better and better. The likes of Samsung and Hyundai are going places and are making huge profits. So why is S'pore struggling to get out of sluggish growth since 2002?
And to include this point: why is Ho Ching's Temasek Holdings struggling in the foreign market outside of S'pore as well?

It is a bigger tragedy than I dare say..WW2.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:And I only believe the only reason why I'm so passionate about these issues is because I believe S'poreans should get more out of their lives than compared to now.
It's sad however to hear from people however, that even with overwhelming evidence that no matter how the PAP have since went down the money route and abandoned the people since then, people continue to support it, blindly.
And it's their own money- the taxpayers- that we are talking about.
S'poreans deserve more rights than they have got now. I believe in that. I also believe that they should have more economic rights right now- and the first thing we should do is to make sure they earn more money(or pay less unnecessary taxes) so that they have more than enough in their pockets.

No matter how good or brilliant is one man, or a few men at the top, such leader or leaders simply cannot match the collective competitiveness by systems relying on group synergy and talents of the whole populations.Originally posted by iveco:He still has some interests in EDB if you take a look here. Absolutely so, and no amount of personal rhetorics or presumption is going to change this important and neglected truth.
Years ago, the fiery LKY made this statement (quote ST editor comment 18/5)
"...He said if he knew what he knew by the time he was Singapore's senior statesman, he would have concentrated on making money, not serving Singaporeans, especially those who thought nothing was good enough for them..."
So you see, the old fellow had already given up helping Singaporeans long time ago.
Someone should remind him that we, the citizens of Singapore, are paying his big salary and he jolly well look after our interests first! Or resign. [/b]
Actually, he's paying himself the big salary; we are simply paying ...... taxes!!

Imagine the late Guardsman who drowned for comments like these.Originally posted by iannotthingham:My 1st post but something I felt after reading the papers:
I spent my 2.5 yrs in NS training to protect, which at times may be against my will. I believe complaining (or 'whining') among ourselves or even to outside people provides us with a means to vent frustation. Since we can't complain to people higher up anyway.
I think for all the time we are contributing, I at least have the privilege to complain, harmlessly, about food, tiring exercises, boring lessons, range burning my weekends etc. It's not like after complaining I refuse to go for these things.
I think it helps to keep us sane.
Anyway, I don't need girls to go for NS like we did, but don't discount my character just because I 'whine' that I can't go home this weekend and have to do guard duty. It may not seem a big deal to do guard duty but sometimes the homesickness is there.
You have to experience to know. You can't feel it when you are happily playing in your hostel or taking part in orientation camps, while I am standing guard by a miserable gate for 2 hours each in shifts on a Saturday.
After the 2.5 yrs, I come out to hear someone prefering to give scholarships to foreigners rather than us. Feelings of unappreciated, indignant?
Hmmx...true...oh well...Originally posted by miong:Right, your future and your children's destinies depend on us!

Time to break free my friends. PAP is not God.
There many small nations in the world without LKY, and these nations are prospering and most importantly -
THEY ARE LIBERATED PEOPLE unlike we Singaporeans!!! They are free to protest in public on any unfair Government policies ..........
