Maybe they are right. We are not Chinese. We are Peranakan-a mix of Chinese and Malay.........remember that when our ancestor came, they married local women.....the children grew up to be Baba/ Nonya......
Studies show that more than 30% of Chinese in Singapore had Baba genes 40 years ago.......today maybe 70% are already of mixed blood. Even Lee Kuan Yew is of mixed blood........ so don't call ourselves Chinese......We are not pure Chinese...... we are Peranakan .........Let's be proud of this mixed heiritage.

Bro, it's tough going against the herd.Anyway, I am proud of my heritage which isOriginally posted by ShutterBug:Wake up, people.
Let China, be as they are, say whatever they so please.
Arguing and debating over the originality of the Chinese race in Singapore, is a pointless pursuit.
Consider the Chinese over in Malaysia, who are indeed Chinese, but very fluent in Malay. Where do they stand in the eyes of China? I don't give a crap! What about Chinese in America, or American Chinese for that matter? Where do they stand?
We are UNIQUELY Singapore Chinese.
I am Chinese, I have baba in my bloodline, and my language of choice among family members, is Teochew. I am proud of my mother tongue, Teochew. NOT Mandarin.
Just as Japan is proud of their own language, and France, and Germany, and all the rest.
Give this a rest!!

Personally, as long as one is proud of his heritage, he can tell others to kiss his balls if they cannot take it.Originally posted by vito_corleone:sorry brother im pure chinese...

Is this reported somewhere? The Chinese that I know from China don't seem to take this point of view.Originally posted by Dr Who:In the eyes of the chinese from China, singapore chinese are barbarians trying to pass off as Chinese.
So?Does it matter if we have this book or not?Who are they to decide on our own substance and culture? Can a people who piss on streets attempt to look pathetically "elite" over a people whom are streets ahead?Originally posted by Dr Who:Our ancestors were poor farmers who could not survive in China. Some were business people. Probably none were high caste mandarins........when they came to Singapore/Malacca, they married low caste locals......I mean which high class family will allow their daughters to marry poor China-men?
That's why the Philippine press had labeled us as "low-caste'" and "crude".
China people are more polite......they don't say it.......the fact is....we don't even have a "Jia-Poo" Family Book which lists our ancestors......something ALL Chinese families should have if they are gentlemen.....
................meaning we don't even know our ancestors..........
.................we don't even follow the family middle name..........can you catch what I am saying?
Philippino ethnic chinese control over 60% of their economy and their press labelled them "low-caste"??? If this is true, then it is indeed the "people who piss on streets attempt to look pathetically "elite" over a people whom are streets ahead."Originally posted by Dr Who:Our ancestors were poor farmers who could not survive in China.
