50 more yrs? Don't bet on it. As for leaving S'pore, yes I will. Why work for a miserable system that values nepotism when there are other people who have created a system that values talent, ability and candor?Originally posted by kingofbeholder:dont like or hate PAP so much, can as well leave singapore liao.
cos they still going to rule singapore at least for the next 50 years.
why make myself suffering by hating them within my beautiful life.
*i easy going man, if cannot beat them....i follow them.![]()

I'd rather leave this country to work for people who I've respect for and who similarly respect me and appreciate my talent, than to stuck in a miserable system who only favours one family: the Lee family.
Self-centredness and nepotism are the worse problems to affect a country, especially when it is vulnerable.Originally posted by t_a_s:everywhere is the same, u of course take care of yr own ppl. what for benefit others bcos he dont know u.
I believe because of uneven playing field and other reasons, they are not many right people to vote for in an election. I will never vote for people like Dr Chee, because of the way he treated our PM Goh then.Originally posted by robertteh:People are waiting for change. If there is no change, they can do something to vote the right people in the next election. There is no other way except to keep up their views and stay committed to change. Every drop counts.
Those who criticise the wrong doings are pro-Singapore as long as they air their views sincerely. So there is no need to feel they must leave the country.![]()

pity CSJ, always get into trouble one.....Originally posted by timothytsgsg:CSJ is out of the question. Unfairly or not, his reputation has gone down the drain.
As for a credible opposition, honestly, we dun have many because of several reasons. Whatever the case is, if your GRC is being contested in the next election, then its either you cast a spolit vote, an empty vote if u feel the oppostion contenders aren't gd 'nuff.
If worse come to worse, go to JB for two days for a 'holiday' during election period and u wun hv to vote against ur principles.

if not for them ... do you think you have a chance to leave the country ... receive education and work here?
if you are back in other country i dont think you have this chance to do that ...
It so happens the PAP went into power in the late 50s. But if there was a credible party(besides the communist-influenced Socialis) during that time- which was devoted to a democratic cause- I'd bet Singapore would still be good enough to progress.Originally posted by antoh:think about it ...

There was an alternative party - Barisan Sosialis. There was someone much more charismatic and perhaps as smart as LKY - Lim Chin SIong.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:It so happens the PAP went into power in the late 50s. And as for the 2nd question- I mean there are so many examples of countries who didn't follow the LKY dogma and still succeeded. LKY isn't a saint or a demi-God, my friend.
Deng Xiao Peng was the truly great leader of China. He wielded strong power to be entitled to a autocratic leader but he stepped aside and preferred to have new and younger leader to take over from him.Originally posted by Profounder:There was an alternative party - Barisan Sosialis. But they were all rounded up under the totalitarian tool of ISA.
And ever heard the allegory:
The Chinese Communist Party was holding a forum in which Deng Xiao Ping was the chairman. The topic of Singapore's achievements came up and a provincial offcial duly informed Deng:
"Premier, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew has done wonders for Singapore by developing the island from a backwater colony to a 1st class country. We can consider engaging his service."
Deng replied, "You are right. Okay, put him in charge of Shanghai."
Moral of the story? Singapore's acheivements may be quite impressive but hey, really, it's just a little red dot of an island.
Well Said......Originally posted by Profounder:2 wrongs don't make one right.
The fact that the standard of living ranges from tolerable to decent here does not give PAP the right to shove whatever it wants down the throat of Singaporeans.
Neither does it give them the right to plunder millions from taxpayers to build luxurious but ugly buildings, pay hundreds of thousands every month to their ministers and cronies, sue and threaten people who disagree with their policies, control the media, gerrymander and change districts at will during elections...
The analogy is that of a CEO who builds a company. Does that entitle him to use the company's money at will? NO. He has to go thru an independent board of directors.
Problem with Singapore is the organs of the state are NOT independent. Join opposition and be vocal? The IRAS will scrutinise your tax records. Dangle a police report at a rally? The famous guard dog lawyer will come after you.
Now coming back to living standard, hmmm...is it really decent? If you are talking about material comfort in terms of basic amenities, yes we have it but let's not forget the thousands of uneducated poor people who live in one room flats and have to go around scavenging for empty drink cans.
But Maslow's Theory prescribes that we have different level of needs even within the material level.
We see so many cars and so many condos. But reality is many Singaporeans who live in them are saddled with debts. This applies even to people who supposedly own flats!
We have one of the most expensive car prices in the world. Yest we have a chronically unrepentant fvced-up public transport company in the name of SBS who seizes the littlest opportunity to raise fares but drags itself when there are calls for improvement in service.
Our wages are artificially suppressed in the name of competition because the PAP keeps using the boogeyman of China and India to distract Singaporean workers. At the same time, those PAP ministers are collecting hundreds of thousands every month and those MPs drive BMWs, jaguars and what not when they go to parliament! And some of these ministers don't even deserve half a cent!! Eg. Yeo Cheow Tong, Mah Bow Tan.
Let's just say that the PAP is a feudalistic institution bent on hanging on to power regardless of the cost.
Support PAP? Thanks but I've better things to do.
Frm what I read so far...yes.Originally posted by PRP:Antoh & Stupidissmart are PAP supporters.
