I don't know why the authority approved the proposal of increasing the fare when the company is making profit!
Reason: Singapore is one of the country with the lowest PUBLIC transport cost.
The company is making reasonable profit.
Just came back from Shenzhen China last sat. While in SZ, I watched their news. Envy their people there cos the news reported that all grades of petrol price reduced across the board due to a fall in the price of Crude Oil recently. I yet to see same thing in Singapore except petrol kiosk spending $ to make those large numericals to display as number in a discount % manner....Originally posted by sgboy2004:since when it go down
The reason why the authority approve of the increase is very simple. every other reason supporting it is camoflage,Originally posted by X-men:exactly!

Lowest? please lah, our public transport is one of the highest around the world. Remember it's at least $0.83 for every bus trip. If you take more than 10 bus trips in one day it can cost you $7.50!Originally posted by X-men:exactly!

Then which country (or city) is on the lower end?Originally posted by timothytsgsg:Lowest? please lah, our public transport is one of the highest around the world. Remember it's at least $0.83 for every bus trip. If you take more than 10 bus trips in one day it can cost you $7.50!
Well, I only have LA and San Francisco on my list because I took their buses and trains last year when I was there. I dunno much about KL and other Asian cities though.Originally posted by iveco:Then which country (or city) is on the lower end?
But you still ahve to measure the bus fare in Bangkok with relation to the purchasing power of the locals to get a clearer picture.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:Bangkok's system is similar to ours though- but because the baht is relatively cheap, it wasn't as bad as compared to ours.
True. I took the trains though. The roads are always packed with vehicles- even early in the morning at 6 am!Originally posted by iveco:But you still ahve to measure the bus fare in Bangkok with relation to the purchasing power of the locals to get a clearer picture.
In singapore, Pubic companies (ministries included) are run like private firms ie maximise shareholders interests & return on investments. Just look some cases reported that the medical treatment at resturtured hospitals are ven more expensive than private ones!Originally posted by foxwalk:And private bus companies haven't even changed their fares for 10 years!!!
SBS and SMRT should be able to survive with low fares and not having to increase them just because "they haven't increased in a while now". What the hell is that?! They are ones who have the economies of scale, and if the provate companies din't increase fares for 10 years and we don't see them b!tch about it, I don't see why the those 2 Fuckers have to.
