There are always, always loopholes to 'laws' and 'rules'.Originally posted by pkchukiss:You are wrong: they have the right. There are currently no privacy laws in effect in Singapore, with the exception of the Women's Charter, and applicable financial laws preventing banks and other companies from leaking your personally identifiable information, so they can search you.
You can only hit them by not patronising them. That is the same reason why I decline to sit inside Eng Hwa and Cathay chains: irresponsible detention of my belongings and monopolistic rules.
There was once I bought ice-cream and had it in plastic bags. I intended to eat while watching. The staff tried to take the ice-cream away from me, saying that they will return it to me after the show. Sure. They put it inside their cupboard (no refrigeration whatsoever), and I am sure that they had a nice time cleaning it out afterwards. Location: Cathay Cineleisure.
Nope. Dun think so.Originally posted by laurence82:and, unless the sign 'No outside food and drinks are allowed' is prominently displayed at the ticket counter, you have the right again to challenge them based on the contract law...
They do not have a right to search your bags. They can take away your food if you are caught with it but they cannot look into your bags. I would ask them to call the police and hold on to my bag. All they can do is stand beside you all through the show until you take the food out, or catch you on surveillance camera.Originally posted by laurence82:since when did the Constitution says they have the rights to search our bag?
thats what i meant...

You should go NS first before you comment on this.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:Singaporeans so humji..surely cannot get anything done.

But think about it the other way, if you raise your voice on being told to open your bag to be searched and refused, what would the rest of the patrons think of you...?
I'm talking on the point that most Singaporeans would gossip about a person who doesn't follow orders

The rationale of banning is not to protect u from unearthly food...it is to force u to take only THEIR foodOriginally posted by M©+square:But seriously, can you imagine the person sitting behind you eating durian or salted fish, chow toufu?
How would you react?
Yea...Originally posted by M©+square:I care not? Cos it's ultimately my personal stuff. It's just overboard already.
Maybe inside got illegal vcds/dvds, that's why i need to protect my bag otherwise worse, kanna caught for possessing obscence materials - while watching movie.
The rest of the patrons will spit and laff at me. Kumlan right?

I find it very unlikely that the mindset will change. We're not as outspoken as caucasians and not as individualistic as the west. Conforming is a lifestyle here.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Yea...
And society has this very interesting way of looking down at people who defy the comformist behaviour apparent....*thinks*....I think they've succeeded in making the majority of ppl here comformist, who do not want trouble and will merely submit to 'orders' or 'rules'
F$#$K him. Not his/her bag. It is mine bag.Originally posted by SilverPal:You brought up a point that hasbeen bugging me. After all, knowing sg ppl, they're usually very conformist and afraid to be different. A scenario I can think up would be a priggish patron standing up and chiding you for making things difficult for the cinema staff, thereby embarrassing you further.
Any Comments?
Roger that. These days, I've been standing my ground ..I'm quite drained and I will snap very soon if some bugger tries to trample on my rights as an individual.Originally posted by diggo:F$#$K him. Not his/her bag. It is mine bag.
If he is not happy, take it up with the cinema.
I would politely repeat the same act every day until nobody would dare come to that cinema again. No need to be nasty. Just politely tell them they have no right to search my bag and ask them to call the police. Disrupt the screening frequent enough and they will lose customers.Originally posted by SilverPal:You brought up a point that hasbeen bugging me. Anyone tried walking in with food? I like it when the foods is like ice cream. I would be a lot of trouble for someone who is not dense between the ears.Originally posted by drawer:Yup,i have encounter that 1 time when i go golden village cinema n watch the movies.I bought outside food n they want to confiscate n give me back later on.I quarrel with the staffs becoz when i bought their food at their counter,i find that the price is horribly high.
I am really pissed n from that time onwards,if i went to the golden village cinema,i will keep the food inside my pocket or best still, dont go to their cinema n watch their movies. It is very inconsiderate for the company to impose this regulations as the economy in our country are god damn bad now!!!
But since it is a private company,we cant really blame much on them.Afterall,it is our government who show them the "bad examples"!!!
Like i said, there are terms attached to the ticket you bought. It is likely that the terms forbid outside food. So legally, they are not obliged to let you in. But if you make enough of a fuss, they might just let you through.Originally posted by diggo:Anyone tried walking in with food? I like it when the foods is like ice cream. IF they demand that you cannot go in, can you ask for a refund?.... Hmmm... I am thinking of trying...
