They are tired to be pulled by the nose all these years. It's a matter a time they do become the world's most powerful Superpower. Give them 50 years (or less) they will eventually catch up with the States liao. I was extremely astonished and amazed at the rate of their modernization when I visited the 3 major cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. The only thing I cannot foresee nor imagine them improving is their people's own character. Taking a cab in these cities is always a nerve wreaking experience... It seems as if there is absolutely no order in their traffic system yet surprisingly they don't end up with accidents... But then again, becos of that, yes, they will become a very big bully when they do become the world's greatest Superpower.Originally posted by spencer99:Do China have some sort of inferiority complex or something... and then keep aspiring to be a superpower.
Now that they are at this stage of development such a big bully. next time when they become even more powerful it would be even worse.
A superpower with primitive characters in her people is no better than a raging bull.China must not make the same mistake as us, and overzealously become economically developed at the expense of the social character of her people and socio-political development.Originally posted by SOP:They are tired to be pulled by the nose all these years. One of my customer once told me that USA is strictly speaking, not the best free market in the world. This title should be given to China instead because they have zero regards for Intellectual Property. My supplier in SZ told me that only with no regards to IP will people keep coming out with fresh ideas on how to offer better products for the market and encourage entrepreneurship which IMHO, we Singapore have a lot to learn from them in this aspect if we want to remain competitive...

This will get uglier in the future.Everytime I see them throwing their new found status as citizens of a superpower wannabe,it appears so vulgar. They bring all their baggage and behave in a similar fashion here.A few have been tongue lashed by me in the MRT when they try to barge in with their elbows.
We may be kiasu and etc...but they have a long way to go with their image overseas.
First China, now Japan angry, better let GCT goOriginally posted by suntze:A point of clarification on the original post may be appropriate as there seems to be some confused reactions in this thread.
When LHL recently visited Japan and told off Koizumi, it was Japanese right-wingers who demonstrated at the Spore embassy. It was reported that some demonstrators, in ignorance, called on Lee Kuan Yew to go home!!![]()
There was no report of any demonstration in China against the visit.
We are just like hor-sin (Housefly) like that... Irritating and agitating people from time to time... What we do will not cause fatalities yet wat we do always seems to piss people off... Wonder why the government likes to go around agitating people... Especially those countries that are vital to our economy...Originally posted by gerrykoh:First China, now Japan angry, better let GCT go

Koizumi really needs telling off for his constant visits to Yasukuni where Yojo and other war criminals are interred. We don't see German politicians doing the same, do we?Originally posted by SOP:We are just like hor-sin (Housefly) like that... Irritating and agitating people from time to time... If Japan isn't pleased, we can always stop buying Japanese bus and truck and go for MAN ones made in Germany. You'd also need to think about giving up your Japanese car, tv, discman, playstation, watch, etc. and pay much more for those made in Europe or America. If you work in a Japanese company, you may also wanna think about quitting your job and applying to companies run by others. In any case, if ppl boycott Japanese goods as you suggest, Japanese companies may have to downsize or close and you may well be out of a job.
Good time to point this out before this thread degenerate into another another China-bashing/pure-Chinese etc etc session.Originally posted by suntze:A point of clarification on the original post may be appropriate as there seems to be some confused reactions in this thread.

This small protest was staged outside Singapore embassy in TOKYO, Japan , NOT in China at all !
For goodnes sake, does any one here know why and who staged the protest ?
No ?
So why bash China ?
Agreed. Fully agreed. Approx. 70% of the cars on the roads are japanese cars. Who would want to buy continental cars at a premium higher than jap cars when u get reasonable quality products from the japs??? 80% of the companies on Jurong Island are Japanese companies. If they pull out of Singapore, the supporting industries of instrumentation (mainly western vendors like Emerson, E+H etc and supporting local subcontractors on the Island) will also collapse. Thus, effectively the petrochem industry of Singapore will be destroyed. While western companies like Maxtor and Seagate are busying retrenching people, jap companies like Yokogawa and Sumitomo are actively expanding their influence here by employing 3000 additional engineers and building new chemical plant on J.Island...Originally posted by suntze:If you work in a Japanese company, you may also wanna think about quitting your job and applying to companies run by others. i feel the shrine is alright; like someone said, aside from war criminals, there are alot of other people in there too.Ito san, presumably you're Japanese or perhaps a local sympathetic to the Japanese.
singapore is trying to be the peace broker now; selling singapore version of democracy and have active voice in international relations. who knows, the bastard who may bring peace to middle east ain't us but singapore. ok.. too far fetched but you get the idea of what singapore government wants to be.
not including selling arms.
anyways the minor protest is from a small group of right wing morons right..? so not whole of japan angry wad. china different, that is an official expression of displeasure. so much different, how to compare?
Dear Conspircy Theorist,Originally posted by SilverPal:Actually, looking from the jap's pov, they are probably pissed off that we are interfering in their own affairs. Who are we to tell them not to visit the shrine? They feel that they're minding their own business and probably expect us to do the same.
Being the hardcore conspircy theorist that I am, I'm compelled to speculate that perhaps the local leedership wants to ensure that china and jap will always have a bone to pick with each other and therefore constantly check each other's growth...
OR
...we were implicitly forced to take sides and cannot afford to offend either one by taking the other's side (not taking sides will offend both, maybe) and we decide to act as the voice of reason to chide two squabbling children so to speak...
Socialist politicians always lack of confidents, our country also what. When our ruling party politicians get criticized by the opposition party members, they sued them liao. This show they lack the confident to take on criticism by other ppl.Originally posted by spencer99:Do China have some sort of inferiority complex or something... and then keep aspiring to be a superpower.

Many countries in the EU are left-leaning and therefore socialist. WHy do we not see their politicians suing opponents like nobody's business?Originally posted by drawer:Socialist politicians always lack of confidents, our country also what. When our ruling party politicians get criticized by the opposition party members, they sued them liao. This show they lack the confident to take on criticism by other ppl.
