Under the current top-down one-party rule, there is no more worry about what people think.
It is not surprising that despite all the highly paid officers, Murders can be allowed to escape to endanger the public but the leaders will look very intelligent and talented and proclaim to their understanding supporters: "This is part of honest mistake or accidents. We have done our best. Lets Move On. Then they will all look the other way, pleased with their appearing on media to give quite a look-good account of what has happened."
From Nicol Highway collapse, to losses in CAO, CSM, to scandals created by GIC employees involved in overseas insider trading, all kinds of fiascos have happened and will continue to happen without any accountability.
At the most there will be pretentious look-good inquiries which excuse the higher-ups from any negligence of lack of talents. As always, paying higher salaries to talents does not mean there will be results or accountability. More scapegoats including penalising more contractors will be found but there will be no ministers taking responsibility for failures or inefficiencies.
