It will be a tough decision. Business operation cost might increase or govt will need to implement another directive to cut salary cost if they really want to honor him with a public holiday.Originally posted by meltz:hope got public holiday ..........

A song on him also and his "famous" words and pharses of him displaying on the roads, streets with billboard and sketches on him using it as propaganda to influence us or maybe even foreigners
Doesn't mean we'll still be part of Malaysia without LKY. We could have remained with London until 2003 and joined Malaysia or declared independence outright. Had we remained longer with the British, human rights in Singapore wouldn't be in such a sorry state. Maybe CSJ could have become the inaugural prime minister if we declared independence in the past couple of years or even this Christmas.Originally posted by Honeybunz:Without LKY, our parents wouldn't be buying HDB flats at such cheap prices.
Today, we might still be living in some pathetic partitioned rented rooms in a run-down house with some other tenants. If you heard about the 60s lifestyle, you will know what I mean. My mom as a kid had to see the landlady's face colour, exactly like what we see on TV or movie. Apartments and houses were just impossible and too expensive for most commoners to own.
Without Goh Keng Swee, Lim Kim San, Toh Chin Chye and Etc.....there will be no LKY.Originally posted by Honeybunz:Without LKY, our parents wouldn't be buying HDB flats at such cheap prices.

There is no human rights in any colony in the first place.Originally posted by iveco:Doesn't mean we'll still be part of Malaysia without LKY. In 1997, the brits took out whatever money they could when they left, leaving the ppl to the communists, where was the right of those who could not migrate to canada or oz?
In 1971 when the great britain empiry declared moving out of east of suez canal, they would have left singapore to malaysia, no need to wait for 2003. Thousands who were left jobless would have to be taken care by the malaysia. Would we have the human rights under malaysia?
If CSJ fought and won the independence for singapore, then he would be respected, but if he were appointed by the outgoing british master, then he remains a stooge. would he be elected as a prime minister? would you vote for him?
I believe that if there were no LKY, others would have fought against the brits for the independence of singapore. If no Goh Keng Swee, then Rajaranam, or Lee Siow Chor.
I don't like PAP, but they are anytime better than a colonial master.

complain complain, that's all we can do. no one has the initiative or brashness to do something about it. we are a nation of procrastinators.Originally posted by robertteh:Are we enjoying Swiss standard of living? Are we earning first world wages?
If we are earning such wages, we do not mind paying the highest costs or the highest salaries in the world to our ministers. If we are paying the highest costs and earning third world wages, will people have cause for annual celebrations in the annual chingay.
I am afraid now we have to think clearly which state are we in. If we are not in the swiss state but have to pay highest costs to keep the elites in their well self-paid jobs on top of all the controls and elitism, then I don't see the cause for annual chingay celebration. It is a fake success story good only to tell to the lucky elites and super-rich few.

good idea, but are the oppo members capable? trustworthy? i think all the best people are in the private sector.earning their money. those oppo guys, a bit dubious in terms of abilities leh...... and the ruling party, ivory tower - enuff said.Originally posted by Atobe:We could be pro-active and be more charitable to the Opposition Parties by supporting their fund raising campaign - direct donation (cash contribution in small sums will not require name to be given), purchase of publishings, and any other events to raise funds.
If one need to be active but will not make any commitment - to join any of the Opposition Party - one can still offer one's services by providing logistical or manpower support.
One area that Opposition Parties sorely need support is in the area of research, information gathering, and intelligence footwork - to gather all reliable information so as to support the Opposition Members in their debate with the Ruling Party.

Not all in singapore are PAP worshippers. Singaporean disillusioned?? hardly!!Originally posted by Cindyfeh:I think HarryPussy made a good point.
If you don't like it here, migrate! I don't it here, so i am migrating! You can do it too! If you think like me, frankly speaking, you don't really care if LKY is around or not.
Let the PAP worshippers stay here and continue to be disillusioned.
