Agreed. Look at the COE, the benchmark is 1.6L, discouraging people from buying small cars. Road tax surcharge for old vehicles, discouraginging people to drive old cars. Developing "World class" transport system, Stop building 3 rooms flats, etc... etc...Originally posted by ShutterBug:The way I see it; Singapore is tailored for the rich and well off. Wherein, the low and middle income, fuels the needs and livelihood of the rich and elites.
We're like livestock to be milked over and over and over and over .....
I have always envy Malaysian. They have no pressure on education fees, medical fees, housing loan, utilities bills and etc. We are very very very pressured by all of the above. Freaking Government!!!Originally posted by Agressor:Agreed. Look at the COE, the benchmark is 1.6L, discouraging people from buying small cars. All these are efforts put in to create the image of properity of Singapore.
But are we that prosperous? Yes, the rich ones are. We are just like the teenagers, trying to look rich with expensive branded stuff, but actually broke and poor.
Most rules and policies including those mentioned above are set for the rich. They have forgotten the poor and the old. These are the group of citizens whom one old fellow refered to as the sacred cow.
Our leaders are trying to mould a "world class" image for Singapore, but forgetting that many can only afford "economy class", yet blaming them of being resistant to change, not willing to learn new skills, choosy and you name it they have it kind of blames and excuses. Again, its like our snout teenagers despising their old parents.
On the other hand, our policies always hinder the citizen to be creative and find money to survive. Recently read from ST forum, regarding a housing agent writing in to explain why the poor prefer to hold on to big flats than to downgrade to ease the financial crisis. This is because rules were set that for downgrading, 4% cash is needed for bank loans as downgrader not entitled for HDB loans.
When cases of poverty like the Wong brother and sister came to light, our usual excuse from the grassroots or ministers will always be the standard " There are several schemes and help provider for the poor, but few utilise them." I would like to remind them that even I do not know of the various help schemes we have for the poor, how then can someone who cannot afford newspaper, TV or internet know about the schemes?
My advise, If you are among the high income earners, sit back and relax, you will become richer. If you are middle high income and below, work hard, save hard to find yourself poorer.
not unless you move to a country that is less pressurizing or you strike it rich.Originally posted by yorkshire:sadly... this is singapore... the whole place reminds me of a pressure cooker..
i only hope for my off springs can have a happy life..
i beg to differ on the "good education" partOriginally posted by dragg:there is no perfect country. it all depends on what you want. job stability, freedom of speech, cheap cars, cheap housing, homogenous society, safety etc.
the biggest problem with singapore is its high cost of living and lack of job opportunities in an increasingly competitive environment.
there is no denying we provide very good education. but what is the point of having good education when jobs are not plentiful?
i believe none of the transport committee members use the public transport.Originally posted by reyes:few issue are obvious.
1. govt control the CPF because doesnt want the burden of taking care of the olderly. esp when singaporean are getting greyer in years to come.
2. indeed singapore are run by a family and a small cluster of so call elite monopolise by a family. do i need to say more. whose family run the country like MNC. control the finances, control the union, vpolitical monopoly. in fact we singapore is the most well run MNC country in the world.
shall we follow the american max. 2 terms or 3 terms for taiwanese.
this would prevent a dynasty from being form.
3. pathetic state of Tripatite union.
dispite govt saying a harmonious union is impt. does it need to come at the expense of the worker benefits. look the world greatest economy. which one doesnt have a strong labour movement. korea? USA? australia? HK? Japan? UK? germany? or do we singapore need to follow China style? worker to fend for themselves?
4. public transport. why our transport price hikes need to be control by a panel of few person who decide the bus fare is reasonable or not. if im not wrong one of the member is ex SAF top general? does he ever take a bus? or any member from the board take a MRT??
we doesn look great on the outside. but the only beneficiaries from our economy are the top 5-10% of the society.
maybe we does need a 3rd world war to restart the balance again.
i dont understand why they insist on holding onto our cpf. whats our US200 billion of reserves for?Originally posted by ShutterBug:I'm NOT voting for them.
My mother is old and sick, and they DO NOT allow her to withdraw her CPF to maintain her medical condition. When I help her apply for early withdrawal, they wrote back literally implying that she should wait till her condition worsens, to the extent she cannot work to support herself. Can you imagine this? INSENSITIVITY!!!
Firstly, which employer in good old Singapore, would employ someon 60 years old, and who has medical conditions? And we're all supposed to let our medical conditions deteriorate until we're wheelchair bound before they even let us draw on our own money on a monthly basis????
This is a God Damned country if you ask me!
