Why can't SPCA use these money to build more space for these poor animals? It seem that they like to use this needle often... I also do my part last time to donate, but it seem it become often this way.Originally posted by Honeybunz:There are too many of them mah. Every day there are just so many abandoned cats and dogs. SPCA also has limited space and money to support all these, thanks to the irresponsible owners.
Expensive leh. But if they have enough funds, I'm sure they will do it.Originally posted by 798:Why can't SPCA use these money to build more space for these poor animals?

NKF exploits cancer and kidney disease patients by wheeling them out in public like circus performing animals, or using them in their money soliciting campaigns, like the junk mail I've been getting. Its sickening to watch, and amazingly people still donate blindly.Originally posted by Honeybunz:But then hor... one point I would like to bring out, regardless of what NKF says....
Filming can be very tiring even to experienced actors and actresses. Is it going to be too taxing for the cancer patients to talk and cry in front of the cameras? After all, these ppl who are struck by fatal illnesses like cancer need a lot of rest.
And if you notice... they always like to bring their patients to the live shows. Are these patients well enough to sit there for two hours watching the song and dance performances (sometimes dangerous stunts)??
In my opinion, I think it's even more cruel to tax on these patients just to beg for more donations, than us not donating at all.
how come ICAC not come into the picture har?Originally posted by idwar:According to National Council of Social Service (NCSS), the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) has $189 million in the bank
Out of every dollar the NKF raised in 2002, $0.52 went to beneficiaries, and the rest to expenses.

==================================
Wow- Super fund raising methods......
Obviously the primary mission of NKF (and chief) is to accumulate huge reserves year after year. It's now $189 million and the means (prizes, sponsors, shows, moral suasion) justifiy the end.Originally posted by mistyblue:that is what they want. To go back to the public and ask for more funds.
Imagine if tomorrow there's a drug that can help kidney patients and even improve their kidneys. Would NKF support that drug?
to create a nation of sick people, gives pharmacies and organizations like this a reason to make more money from the people.
Yeah, actually in one of the Newsletter, SPCA asked about their euthanizatinOriginally posted by Honeybunz:Sometimes humans also cannot choose.
NKF is guilty of blowing away $174 million on expenses when itWow! For a moment i thought kidneys grew on trees.
could have been expended on organ purchase and replacement for
most (if not all) of the current kidney dialysis patients.
With a new kidney, there's no need for expensive recurring dialysis
patient costs.
What a rip-off!!!
CDAC help a lot of chinese with educational grants.Originally posted by OldAhPek:I wonder if i'm being cruel....
Euthanasia shld be practise in Singapore
Struggling to keep alive, fighting against sickness
is a form of bravery?
Burdening others, leeaching off society $$ and time
By the way, we keep giving $$ to CDC (or CDAC?)
and what have they done for the chinese?
At least i still heard of Medaki fund
This is a very common criteria to qualify for subsidies by the government or VWOs. Problem being, $2 - 3k for household income is like barely enough these days! Say you have 2 kids, elderly parents, a housing loan, a car loan, how much disposable income will you have left after subtracting all that? And prices keep going up in Singapore! So most families actually don't get any help from organisations and that is how they keep chalking up those obscene surpluses year after year!Originally posted by activator:I have heard (not confrimed source) that in order to qualify for NKF subsidies..a household cannot have income above 2k!
Look around us...how many will not make it liaoz....
Seriosly... i would rather give directly to the needy and not through an Organisation like NKF...
Anti-oxidants? You mean free radicals, don't you? Anti-oxidants mop up the harmful free radicals that cause mini chain reactions in the body, like what happens at nuclear power plants.Originally posted by timothytsgsg:Actually the problem about kidney failure is also related to liver failure and the basis of it is actually your diet.
Basically if u have a healthy diet(eat lean red meats, fish(salmon, tuna etc), certain seafoods and lots of veggies and fruits, your chances of liver and kidney failure is reduced because your body produces less anti-oxidants.
Antioxidants are dangerous to the function of the organs in the body because anti-oxidants attack the organs itself. It's produced in the midst of producing energy from food and in order to make sure that the amount is reduced, organs like the kidney and the liver will process it to reduce the amounts.
But even these organs are no robots and can fail if they are used excessively.
That's why people who have had drank loads of alcohol and ate a lot of unhealthy foods tend to have kidney and/or liver failure. So if we want to reduce the kidney failure rate of Singaporeans, then its time we start addressing the problem of diets in each and every Singaporean.
Once a majority of Singaporeans, young and old, start eating more healthly(and moderate their amount of unhealthy food) then maybe we don't need to continously throw money at huge money guzzling organizations like NKF.
Erm ya, I got a bit mixed up. I meant oxidants. Oxidants, aka free radicals are the ones which attack the body organs. Kidneys and the liver(to a certain extent) will reduce the amount of free radicals in the body but it isn't enough.Originally posted by iveco:Anti-oxidants? You mean free radicals, don't you? Am surprised you call my idea redundant. Have you fully explored the possibilities? I doubt so. If you had like me, you wouldn't be saying redundantOriginally posted by runningismylife:Wow! For a moment i thought kidneys grew on trees.
Please come up with practical solutions and not redundant ones like this.

Unless you can come up with a super duper way to ensure our capacity of kidneys available for transplant increase, i don't see how your idea is practical.
without thinking. Let me tell you. There are hard practical solutions to solving the kidney organ replacement and disease crisis.
heard from my parents that a friend of theirs who was on tv to share his sob story about kidney disease (during one of the NKF show years ago) was pressured into doing so. prior to filming he was asked to sign a statement indicating he was 'willing' to do so. but the message he got is, either you film or you can look elsewhere for your dialysis subsidies.Originally posted by av98m:NKF exploits cancer and kidney disease patients by wheeling them out in public like circus performing animals, or using them in their money soliciting campaigns, like the junk mail I've been getting.
