http://www.channelnewsasia.com/cna/forum/forum_markettalk.htmThe NKF was a registered society (ROS reference number 1086/1968 WEL) and was officially registered on 6 March 1969. But NKF has sought voluntary dissolution through the Registry of Societies (ROS) somewhere in 2003-2004 and subsequently re-registered itself as company/ business (ACRA reference number 200104750M) with the Registry of Companies and Businesses (RCB), now known as Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore (ACRA), most likely as a public company limited by guarantee.
NKF is also a registered charity with the Office of Commissioner of Charities (COC), Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS)

Why would a voluntary welfare organization (VWO) re-register itself as a company/ business?
In secular terms, a company/ business involves in trade and is profit making in nature (profit-driven).
Hence, a company/ business makes monies $$Â…, and it is answerable and accountable to its shareholders and board of directors.
A company/ business needs lots of $$Â… to survive.
That why a rich company/ business can afford to pay big fat humongous gigantic salary and extravagant pecks packages, special privileges, entitlements, allowances, fees to its Chairman, CEO and other senior directors.
Most of the VWOs are registered as society. E.g. Singapore Cancer Society, National Heart Foundation, Diabetic Society of Singapore, Breast Cancer Foundation, ChildrenÂ’s Cancer Foundation etc.
DonÂ’t you find it extremely strange (society vis company/ business)?
I would neither donate my hard earned “blood and sweat” monies to genuine registered society with charity status.
