With the slow depletion of the "original" Singaporeans from the local population, due to the annual migration to other greener pastures, in 2004 the Ruling Elite was toying around with the idea of allowing those "overseas" Singaporeans to retain their Singaporean Citizenship and Passports.
The concern from the Ruling Elite is not about LOYALTY of these "overseas" Singaporeans who have migrated, but more concerning the "political stability" and "political guarantee" during Singapore General Elections, as to how these "overseas" or "foreigner" Singaporeans will vote.
It will be very funny to enlarge the GRC of Marine Parade to also include Perth and Darwin.
The concern is about the attitudes of these "overseas" Singaporean "foreigners" - who will be accustomed to a more open societal system in foreign lands, and open to plurality of views and debate.
How will these Singaporeans vote in a General Election in Singapore ?
Will their overseas vote provide the last piece to tilt the vote in favor of the Opposition ?
It is ironical that while Communist Vietnam will welcome the return of Vietnamese who have fled the country as refugees, and willing to give them a place as a Citizen in Vietnam with no objections to their holding a foreign passports, the very insecure Ruling Party of Singapore cannot do the same for those Singaporeans who have migrated.
